Hey

So yesterday i was swimming, and as i did a Turn (proper somersault turn) I misjudged my foots position and i firmly planted my heel into the pools edge.

Since then its swollen and i cant put any pressure on it what so ever.

Was a real pain to drive as i cant even rest it on the Matt!

Anyway, I'm now at work, limping about and feeling sorry for myself.
A&E is just down the road and it would be nice to know what on earth is causing this pain, if its a bad bruse, a chip on the heel bone or if i have cracked it.
I have taken my daily dose of 90Mg Codeine for my back, so that's deffo damping the heels pain...

So do i or dont i go to A&E? Works fine with me going... I just don't want to waste their time thats all :/

I know people totally abuse A&E and go inappropiately, but the question is, is it an accident or emergency.....and it does seem like an accident to me.

I can imagine if you went to the GP with that they would send you to A&E anyway.

Go to a walk in centre, not A&E. It is not an emergency and you would not benefit from going to A&E but rather just be waiting much much longer and also delay other people who have gone there that do not need to be seen to immediately. Walk in centres are there for this sort of thing and often everything can be done there. If it requires more immediate attention then they will arrange for it.

90mg of codeine is a pretty high dose, if it is still fairly painful after that dosage, then i would leave work now rather than do it tomorrow.

If its so swollen it is clearly broken, then you could go to A&E though its still probably quicker to go to a walk in clinic, if its a larger centre, they should be equipped to treat you there.

OP's problem is probably (potentially) more serious than 90% of people in A&E. Sad truth is, people go there if they've got a sore throat or a headache.

At least they do round here.

Triage nurse will put you in the 8h "not urgent" queue and then the 6h xray queue. You should be back home by 2017. Merry Christmas.

Sounds more like a walk in, they can normally do x-rays there too and if it's bad enough then they'll send you to A&E.
