Hi all

Wife wanted a new laptop, so we got a acer.

A 5710 C2D @ 1.5, 2 gig DDRII, Vista Prem (32bit (Why 32bit when the machine is 64bit)).

The only disk we got was a vista upgrade disk (do not install this unless you have purchased the correct license)

But no restore disk, so if the laptop goes **** up. I cant do crap (yes I know warrenty is there).

Any ideas if they are ment to come with a disk.

i think the acers are hard drive based recovery, ALT F10 or F11 on startup, sometimes you can burn a set of disks off in windows, the older acers had this option

what the above guy said ^

Usuually hard drive is partinioned off for it.

32bit vista, yea that annoys me too, dell do it too!

i've just got an acer aspire 7520 and i used the acer erecovery management to burn a factory default image onto dvd. well...2 dvd's!

it also gives me the option to burn an image as my laptop is now, with all my apps installed etc etc.

yeah you have the option in one of the acer menus.

what about reinstalling from real vista media tho? the serial says OEMAct which i think means that i am screwed if i ever want to do a CLEAN install.

tell me i am wrong? somone

You should be fine to reinstall from the recovery image you have whether from hard drive or an image burned to dvd. As far as I'm aware the OEM licence dies along with the laptop, ie...if the motherboard develops a fault you may well have to purchase a new OEM licence for Vista.

However, if you purchased a retail version you install it and reinstall it as many times as you want in theory.

I think that's right, but please don't quote me on it just in case!

You should be fine. Mate did it with his laptop. He lost the recovery disc and the OS was XP home so he borrowed my disc and formatted and used the serial number on the underside of the laptop. All went ok!
