Ok, I posted on here a few weeks ago about my glasses not feeling right, I took them in and it turned out they were made up wrong. Now I said fair enough mistakes can happen and I was told 2-3 weeks and they would be ready.

Now I wasn't happy with this as I need them before I go on my Geology field trip, but the woman said some story about them changing over to Pentax lenses and blah blah lots or reorganisation blah. And that they really wouldnt be ready for 2-3 weeks, so I said fair enough I'll take a chance that they'll come back before I go away.

Well the other day after 2 weeks I guess I got a letter from Specsavers saying I need to ring up to arrange another eye test. So I rang them today and I was told there may have been a problem with the test, wrong prescription etc. etc. and that I would have to arrange a new one. Well I'm getting slightly aggrevated now but need them so I said ok. To which she says and to confirm for you it will be another £18.50.

Now, I can't afford another £18.50 on top of £170, and more to the point I don't feel I should pay, if it is a mistake of specsavers. And now, I just want to cancel the whole damned thing and go to a private optician back home!

What do you think I should do, bearing in mind I have no idea where the nearest CAB is and it's been over 2 weeks since I actually paid for the glasses on my credit card. Can I simply tell them I am incredibly frustrated and unhappy and I would like my money back so I could go to a decent opticians?

And yes, I now know specsavers are bad, but the weird thing is I went to specsavers for 4 years at a smaller branch when I was living at home and they were brilliant :)

Must be the curse of the large, busy, rushed city store :(

They admitted to you that they made a mistake and they want you to pay?

Speak to a manager :)

hey I am an optometrist and trust me if it's their fault specs were not right then you pay no extra. if worst comes to worst they will refund you money for sight test and specs and you can go elsewhere.
just kick up a big fuss and ask to speak to the director of the store, lastly ask for the head office number.
what area is this if you dont mind me asking?
any queries i'll be back tonight

Its allways concerned me eye tests.

I've never completly sure if I get the "is lense number 1 or 2 sharper" right it seems a bit random.

But when I went to have my laser eye surgery last month I can't be completly sure but I think they have a machine that can work out your perscription instantly.

It's the Manchester area :) I will definitely be speaking to one of the managers today, they promised they would ring me back lol :p I only went along with it as I had to pop out :) Think I'll give them a bell in an hours time.

And yeah, shouldn't have gone to specsavers, but it's annoying how service goes from brilliant at one branch to pap at another :(

Don't know if you remember me saying the exact same thing in your previous post.

If it's the Arndale, they are shocking. The other branch I moved to after terrible service has been fantastic, not a mistake in 7 years, and fantastic service.

More than likely the person you spoke to on the phone has no authority and is not going to say you can have the test for nothing, in case they get into trouble. You're clearly entitled to it free of charge :)

I agree with the wise guy.

Its their fault they admitted responsibility, the onus is on them to make things right for you. Not for you to pay for them to correct things. I would ask to speak to the manager, explain the issue from your point of view, calmly and state that you have already paid for your test and your prescription and that you are not willing to pay for all of this again, because they made a mistake.

If paid for with a credit card, start the dispute charge process with your credit card provider as well. You have not received suitable goods that you have paid for, so the CC company will most likely be sympathetic as well.

each specsavers is a franchise and hence each is run differently. I have worked at lots and seen how they all vary which is why atm i prefer working for independents where you get much better service.
anyway lowdown is any optometric practice where you are unhappy and kicking up a fuss will eventually refund you your money and tell you to go elsewhere.
The procedure what i follow is:
check specs are made up correctly
check fitting is correct as on certain prescriptions this makes a huge difference.
if all above correct and still having problems - rebook for another sight test free of charge.
finally check difference in the 2 sight tests and address any problems and how they can be sorted out by modifying the prescription.

let us know how you get on with your complaints.
(final result - I can test your eyes :D )

I've had three eye tests in my life, twice I was told I needed glasses and once I was told I was fine. All three tests took place over a six week period about 3 years ago. To add to the confusion the two 'well known' high street places I went to gave me different results (both requiring glasses of course). I wouldn't trust them with a bargepole.

And no you shouldn't have to pay again.

I haved to say, we have used our local Specsavers (Aylesbury) and couldn'r ask for better service. They have dealt with a very, very fussy and paranoid other half, a reluctant small child who needs glasses and my hypercondriacal MiL, with dealt with everone brilliantly. The fact that they are a franchise explains it as the 'Director' has been fantastic.

If I can be of any help (I'm a manager at Wigan Specsavers) email me and I will see what I can do for you :)

You shouldn't have to pay for another test if they have prescibed an incorrect prescription. As for the rimless glasses taking 2 3 weeks, this is correct as they have to order in the hi index lenses (Can take up to a week to 10 days) then send them on to be glazed at an independent glazing company, probably Bury Optical.

Let me know, I've got my appraisel on Monday, so I can mention it then ;)

if only your branch had an inhouse rimless glazing machine. I know one which does and they keep polycarb lenses in stock so can be churned out quicktime. :p
