Right, I was convicted of a drink driving offence on 5th July this year (detailed in another thread so no need to go into it here). Initially I was going to sell my Rover Coupe but I have discovered a pretty major engine problem that means its worth sweet fa unless I fix it.

Anyway as I wanted a bit of a laugh I decided to see how much it was going to cost me to reinsure at the end of my ban (people had been saying £3500 for a low powered hatch). Imagine my suprise when the second quote I ran worked out as £1800, which is what I paid last year for the same car. Now I can easily afford this and with the work that needs doing before I can sell it anyway I am now seriously considering keeping it.

What would you do in the same situation, and if I do keep it what is the best way of storing it (once I have completed the engine work)?

a friend of mine had a similar problem(was banned fo 12 months dd) he owned a vr6 at the time. his dad rang the insurance up, they suggested keeping the policy going and his father becoming a named driver. his dad then cleared out his council garage and put the car in it. he took the car out once a month for a blast (his father) and when the ban was up the insurance wanted about £150 more to cover him.

£1800  is that fully comp?

Its more than the value of the car! Thats nuts.

I suppose I paid £1700 for my first years insurance on a Rover Coupe. Just looking back, it doesn't seem worth it. Crazy money.
