Should I keep my iMac?

Hi Folks

As you all prob aware that I got a 2.16Ghz MBP and I was thinking of getting a External Monitor for it, for photography editing.

I went to the apple store in Meadowhall Lastnight to have a look at the ACD to see what they like and I did not like them at all for the price they were. Compare to a Dell Monitor I saw at the weekend at my Father in Law.

I instead walked away from the store with a 24" iMac 2.8Ghz with the Stock Specification. This afternoon is my first chance of having a go at it with doing aperture work along side with my MBP. I dont see much in performance wise apart from the iMac could be a tag quicker. I love the screen on the iMac it soo nice...

But is it worth keeping a 1149 Kit whilst I got a Good MBP that i could get a Dell Monitor for at about £380.

Help me decide

Honest comments

Bear in mind the guts of the iMac are essentially laptop parts, so even your MBP running at 2.16ghz compared with the 2.8 of the iMac, if they're both running 4GB ram the performance difference in photoshop won't be terribly noticable..

The iMac does come with a H-IPS screen though, which is outstanding.. Probably not outstanding enough to warrant keeping the whole computer though!! Take it back and get a nice Dell 24"er (Or 30 if you can afford it - which i presume you can if you just brought an iMac!) to run alongside that MBP :)

I got the iMac as i though it was very good and nice to use in-store. The pictures showing on the iMac screen is great really love the screen.

But I am trying to think whether it worth keeping it running along the MBP as then i be stuck with 2 high price kit.

But if I got a monitor for my MBP I want it to be very good possibly as good as the iMac screen or is that impossible.

Reason why i came home with one as i know i got 14 days to have a play with it ;)

Nothing to do about white or Apple. Are these dell really good? Do they show pictures good etc and are they fussy on the angel of viewing?

This iMac does not care where i sit even my partner can have a look at what i doing at a angle rather in front

I did say get the 2407/2408 but then again you don't really follow what advice people give you ;)

I did take your advice mate... As that what i would be going for but i could not walk away from the apple store without a iMac using the 14 days period.... I honestly must say I do love this iMac it really is nice to work with and is fast and good.

What is it worth keeping is my point along side with the MBP even thou the MBP will still get used while i am away etc

I have a 24" iMac 3.06Ghz 8800GS model and its a lot faster that my MBP 2.33GHz. I had the option of running my MBP on my old Dell 24" and it looked carp compared to my iMac 24". ;)

Dual monitors in Aperture is ace ;)

I hardly ever have my MBP open, though, so I'm always on the 2407.

I do know that the Dual Monitor is a good feature,,, But then again i can always use spaces which is similar

I still am undecided but still got 12 days to decide :) But I must admit it lovely and ace to work with on this iMac...

Id say dual monitors is more than ace, once youve used Dual Monitors for Aperture you will never go back, Aperture really really does benenfit hugely from having dual screens. Personnally id be keeping the iMac and then buy a 2407/2408 to run alongside the iMac. :p

Sell the MBP or keep that as well if you need mobile computing.

Cheers for your comments, I know duel screen is ace i love it but you never know I may go down that route one day ;)

Are you into photography? what your set up currently?

I am still loving this iMac it really is nice to work with and it is handling things better than my MBP at the moment...
