Should I or shouldn't I?

Hey if you think the guy went too far literally do what you need to do to keep him in check. Not sure I'd start a thread asking if you should or mention you got pinched for speeding though.
I did, why don't you read the posts. I wasn't pinched for speeding.
What do you think a forum is for anyway trying to belittle everyone else?
Andi.

I would but that's due to my commute home has a similar setup (normal road though so only 2 lanes with 1 being open) and it happened 3 days last week, 1 was good as they had to sheepishly reverse back up as they didn't time it right and got the oncoming vehicles blocking their way.

You are allowed to overtake slower moving cars and if you then found yourself unable to stop safely for a set of temp lights that srung up from nowhere, you might be in the right to go through.

Sorry, Having flicked through the highway code I can't find the bit about suddenly coming across a traffic light so being allowed to jump a red light. In fact I can't find anything about a normal road user being able to jump a red light at all.

Well from your reaction to my question maybe. You do come across as a little butthurt about the speeding thing, not sure why you'd mention it TBH. I do sense you're maybe set on putting the world to rights with your new camera becuase you're upset over the situation.

Been a while but I do remember something about when safe to do so. Kind of like making the best of a bad situation.

Maybe you should read it again. Certain emergency vehicles can treat them as give way, but to you and I Jumping a red light is an absolute offence.

Highway code section 176, if the lights are clearly broken, e.g. stuck on red for 30 mins, then you should treat the junction as you would a normal unmarked junction.

Anyway, I call BS, pretty sure the police wouldn't tell you they were intending to prosecute as that would breach of the data protection act.

Thats down to interpretation. It says if the traffic lights are not working. I would read that as in NO lights are working. If its been stuck on red then a light IS working. I suppose it would have to be backed up by ALL lights being stuck. But I would assume there is a fail safe as if they can be stuck on Red without a failsafe then they could also ALL be stuck on green.

I have to say I've never seen it happen with permanent lights, but definitely on temporary ones.

Perms tend to fail completely and go into safe mode (ie not displaying)

Temps lights have setup that the operator can do (length of time between switching each direction etc), so if you have an inexperienced one they can mess it up. Or they may just turn them on and get the default setup which could be complete gibberish for the situation they have been placed in. Shouldnt happen but can, you can hire sets of traffic lights from some tool hire companies if you fancy ;)

As a result of you reporting it? Well done :) Seems like a black and white case with video evidence.
Yes I was a little sceptical of the whole process but it was such a blatantly dangerous thing to do I had to do something. Seen a few other things on the old Dashcam but don't want to be too much of a grumpy old man :D
Andi.

Good stuff. People do silly things all the time on the roads and it gets caught on dashcams and uploaded to YouTube, but when people are driving outright dangerously they deserve whatever they get coming to them.
