Should I pull the trigger on a 6700XT?

Hi all,

I'm a casual gamer - I generally just play big AAA titles on console and call it a day, but in late 2019 I got the itch to give PC gaming a go and put together a Ryzen 5 2600X/1660ti system, which I have had fun with.

Now a friend at work is looking to dip his toes into PC gaming for the first time and I am thinking of selling him my current system, minus the motherboard, and upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600X/6700XT which should be plenty for 1440p gaming. I am not anal about having the best fps, etc, I am just looking to strike a good balance between price, performance and power consumption and the 6700XT seems to currently be where its at.

At the moment the Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT Pulse is £439 (up from £399 yesterday - gutted). Do you think I should bite the bullet and get it before the price goes up any more?

There is also a Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT Nitro due soon but I have no idea what the price will be. More I would imagine - I'm far from an expert of GPUs but the Nitro cards seem to be held in high esteem.

What do you think I should do?

Duck and cover.

Prices shooting up again just shows how bad the situation is, milking the rest of those on older cards for some more cash. I just went 2nd hand last week after i saw prices start jumping as i'd rather have bought from OC, but not at an increasing price.

There's this as an option if you can swallow the fact they were almost £300 new a month back. Not much performance drop off from the XT models. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/-b-g...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-bg-166-sp.html

I'd probably skip the 5600x if keeping your board and save some cash with a 2nd hand R5 3600 if compatible which it is if you're talking about Zen 3.

Edit: You could put an offer in on the b grade and might get accepted.

You can still get the 5600 non-X at the 'discount' prices, so I'd go for that. As suggested above, the 6700 non-XT could also be a good option. Shame the FE 3060 Ti seems to have disappeared as that was priced decently too. If you did what eeii suggested and just go a graphics card, then maybe a 6800 non-XT, though that's a tad overkill for 1440p/60.
