Should I return this?

I received an all in one printer today sold as new from a third party storefront on amazon, and as I unpacked it, it looks to me like it's been repackaged. It cost £114.99 plus £8.99 shipping, considerably more than the £99 it sells for in a famous high street retailer. I only bought it online because I had a £50 gift certificate with them. It was delivered in just the Epson box, not within a plain protective cardboard box, and consequently the Epson box has been somewhat ruined.

The protective plastic on the printer looks like it has been re-stuck down as it's rippled, (I presume it would be stuck down smoother from the factory) the sellotape on the plug is twisted with sticky side up and some white paper stuck to it, and there's no standard protective cap over the 3 plug pins.

What would you do, continue unpacking and setting it up or leave it and get it replaced? The seller feedback is generally very good, but it annoys me that I've effectively been sold what seems to be 'new other' rather than new.

Oh and hairline scratch on lid.

Return it, buy something else with £50 voucher, buy printer from high street?

That's what I should have done in the first place, yeah. *facepalm*

I'll get it returned. The seller should provide a courier to collect it shouldn't he, rather than me having to send it back?

Thanks, that's good info. I've composed a detailed message to the seller on the amazon contact seller page, hopefully it'll get sorted.

Thanks. This is what I sent. *clears throat* ahem... :p

"Hello,

I received the item this morning but am not at all satisfied with the condition. As I unpacked it, it appears to have been repackaged. It was delivered in just the Epson box, not within a plain protective cardboard box as I would have expected, and consequently the Epson box has been somewhat ruined in transit, or from whoever might have returned it before me. This would be even less acceptable if for instance I'd bought it to give as a gift for someone.

The protective sticky plastic around the printer looks like it has been re-stuck down as it's rippled, (I presume it would be stuck down smoother from the factory), the sellotape on the plug is twisted with sticky side up and some white paper stuck to it, so that has been obviously opened before, and there's no standard protective cap over the 3 plug pins. The scanner lid also came with a hairline scratch.

I have gone no further in opening or setting up the printer, I have merely removed the printer from the box and inspected. Please see my photo gallery which shows these things I mentioned. [gallery]

This is clearly not a 'new' item. So under Distance Selling Regulations, I kindly request that it is collected for return to yourself and for me to be refunded the £123.98 which included the delivery and handling. I will happily give excellent feedback for xxxxxxxx once this matter is resolved to my satisfaction.

Many Thanks.

Kind Regards,
... "

Should do the trick hopefully.

Have to say, credit to them and I'll leave them great feedback. Customer service team already emailed me back at 2 in the morning when their office are officially closed, very apologetic, and are refunding me the full amount inc P&P and are arranging parcelforce to collect on my preferred date. Can't ask for more than that! :)

He did open by saying "I can confirm that item was dispatched as New in our warehouse, however due to security reason, the courier may inspect an item when it's in their depot, to avoid driver theft during the transit." Hmm, not so sure about that, but no need to question it now, especially as he never hesitated to honour my request for the full refund.

This is a better result than I had expected, and considering the fact that you are getting your money back, I would ignore their opening statement. It sounds like a last ditch attempt to shift the blame, so that you may buy from them again. :p

Having seen the state some stuff at works turns up sometimes where we have dispatch images I can well believe it managed to happen in transit however :|

Yep, they're collecting on Friday. I already went and bought another from the high street, so now I have two of them here :p
