Should I sell my 4890 and get a 5xxx series?

Seriously though, I reckon for my course I might need quad core power. Not only that, but with more games making more use of quad core technology, it may be an aid in future.

I think I may just get another 4890 and be done with it - I really like my current one. Two 4890s should still be a good set-up for a couple more years.

As you have one already thats the way I would go then in a year or so if not longer there will new next gen cards out

That 4890 is just as good as two 5770 or the 5850. How many games out now using DX11 2..3? With that budget I would wait.

as when I'm there, I'll have no money for upgrades. So, theoretically the new hardware needs to last around 4 years..

Your that short of money and you want blow what very little money you do have on a GPU upgrade that you don't even need

Unless u want Eyefinity definitely stick with the 4890 and add a second as a nice xmas present or wait 6 - 12 months when u actually need it and add a second for peanuts.

Using a 4890 myself still do's a great job, wait till DX11 games are out and by that time prices should have dropped on the 58xxx series, why pay an inflated price?

I think that you're right.

I'll see if there are any 'got-to-get' deals in the January sales, but will otherwise hold off for a while to see what happens. If 4890s drop loads in price, I could go tri-fire - that should hold off games for a good time...

Holding off will also mean that I can devote my time into looking into my new CPU/Mobo.
