Well I bought my E6300 and now the E6600s have come in stock earlier than expected. I have it in my basket but i cant decide whether to go ahead with the order or not. Do you think it would out clock my E6300 in the DS3? I know i wont see a massive performance increase but dou you thik its worth it. Im looking for 5 yeses before i go ahead lol.
cheers
Scott

The rest of your spec sounds absolutely bleeding edge. If you have the cash free, i'd probably go for a 6600, I'm willing to bet unless you've mangled the 6300 in the 4 days you've had it, it'd sell for just under full cost if you shift it fast while the Allendale's are fairly rare...

The 6600s do seem to clock better, and the cache couldn't hurt?

You wont get past 3.8ghz with a E6600 I wouldn't of thought.I am still trying to get 3.9ghz stable and TBH the extra vcore it needs is not worth it.

what cooling and voltge are you using for 3.8?

I would possbly keep the E6300. I have an E6300 and E6600, and I too am unsure which too keep. It will probably be the E6600 as thats what is in my machine now and I cant be bothered taking it out.

If your E6300 is stable at 3.2Ghz, how much further for the money will you take the E6600? I thought the E6600 would be far superior, but its not that much better...apart from the 4mb cache! They are both amazing cpu's.

well i will be in same boat. My 6600 is ordered i will see how it clocks and sell one of them

I'm also thinking about getting a conroe but I really can't make me mind up wether to get the 6300 or 6600? I like the cheapness of the 6300 and I'm sure one of these would clock well, though not as high as the 6600, but would it get close enough so's not worth bothering with the 6600 (ie: is the increase in overclock between these two cpus worth the cost difference, £125)?
Also, does the 4meg L2 cache make a noticeable difference, especially in gaming?

I could be wrong here, but I thought games did not take advantage of the large cache size.

The way I see it, if you buy an E6300, clock it to atleast 2.6ghz, then basically you have yourself a chip comparable to the FX-62 (which also only has 2mb cache. Thats not bad for £130!

You would possibly get, with good cooling, good ram etc etc upto 400-600mhz more with e6600. Thats maybe however, have not seen enough e6600 overclocking results to say. My E6600 is only at 3.24ghz and thats fast enough! The E6600 is 2.4ghz out the box though with a multiplier of 9, which is also nice as requires less overclocking...
