I just bought a new 22" widescreen lcd today and when i got it home and fired it up it has 1 dead pixel on it, should i take it back and get a replacement?
I wouldnt have minded so much if it was near the edge or something but its right in the middle and i cant stop lookin at the damn thing :(

You can't take it back unless you swallow the shipping charge and pack it all up good and neat so they can't tell you used it then send it back under DSR (wouldn't have to give a reason).

Unless the retailer / manufacturer has a very good dead pixel policy you won't get a swap because of one dead pixel.

try and bring thee dead pixel back to life? Theres a website out there somewhere that puts loads of stuff on your screen to try and bring it back to life. Also try rubbing your finger over it ;)

i swapped my tele when it came with a dead cell with no problems as it was pretty much right in the middle of the screen. My flat mate could not change his as it was within an inch of the edge of the screen.

I think the law should be black and white regarding this issue
if something arrives with a dead pixel anywhere on the screen it should be able to be returned and the onus of the cost of return on the etailer
or manufacturer a faulty product is a faulty product it shouldn't matter how small or whereabouts the fault is i am unsure of the sale of goods act small
print no idea if this issue is hidden somewhere.
This is the exact reason why i am still crt why should i be gambling whether
a screen will have dead pixels when spending a lot of money.

Ive had a few people with dead pixals with new monitors. All I did was rub my magic finger over the spot when turned on, applied alittle preasure and it magically vanishes.

Seriously? Can that be applied to anything with a dead pixel on it?

not everything :)

The monitors that looks like crystal when you touch it is the ones. Only if it ain't got glass on the front. One of them I could not fix was my friends Neovo TFT that had glass on the front. Lucky for him they exchanged it.

I agree 100%. Sale of goods act is on your side btw if you have a dead pixel, since it states products should be 'free from minor blemishes and defects'.

Erm no, because monitors have an ISO standard which allows for a certain number of dead pixels, surely?
