Should I upgrade from my Q6600 to an i5 2500k?

upgrading from Q6600 to 2500k seems to be the standard move for most gamers at the moment

I personally would upgrade, and did, but for me that was because I knew I could afford to and wouldn't have been satisfied unless I did so.

As for that last little spec you done with the Corsair case, it's a great little set up there. The stock cooler can be pushed to about 4Ghz so they say, but even something basic like a AC Freezer 7 Pro for £20 should perform a little better, but if you do that you might as well go for a gelid tranquillo.

My advice would be get a 60GB SSD instead for now to load windows and a few games/programmes on. And put the rest towards a decent cooler that will look nice inside that beautiful case.

No probs dude. Maybe with the money that you offset from a smaller SSD you can colour coordinate better and get a decent cooler like this so it all looks gorgeous inside that sexy case:

Oh and it's still a fair bit less!

Looks good! Would I get better temps with the Gelid cooler though? I don't realy mind about the noise of the pc If I'm honest.

Not compared to an antec khuler I don't think. The all in one water coolers are only really surpassed by the top end air coolers like the Thermalight Silver Arrow and the NH-D14. But they also come with a bigger price tag than many of these all in one water coolers.

I'd go all in one water cooler for sound, aesthetic and temperature benefits. I wish i'd got an antec khuler instead of my H50 as well.

Thanks man :)

On the RAM note though.. is it worth getting 8GB or not? and why the Vengeance when the G.Skill is much cheaper? :D

Aesthetics :) All black inside that case will look hot. Go for the red if you want by all means, it's your choice ultimately. But if you do, I'd personally try and get a couple of red LED fans in there somewhere to compliment the RAM.

As for 8GB v 4GB, currently you're probably going to be absolutely fine with just 4GB. But that will still costs you about £30 for a decent 4GB kit. For just another £10-£20 you can get a decent 8GB kit instead and you'll be future proof for a while.

Ahh in that case, deducing from above, not much point in 16GB of RAM at all unless you're into video rendering or something extreme that requires a lot of RAM.

Awesome thanks, Well.. I can knock a bit off the price of all the stuff seeing as I've found most of it cheaper and in stock elsewhere.

Just got to decide which RAM to buy now, I like the look of the one you've posted. It's going to be exactly the same speed at the end of the day :)

Not too keen on the Agility 3 though, I read something about major stability problems with them? :o

Yeah there has been a fair amount of negative feedback with regards to that. But what I always say is this, you'll never hear the satisfied customers coming on to rave about a product, only the ones who want to whine about it. So ultimately we don't know how widespread the stability issues are.

But if you are worried then go for the 64GB crucial, albeit its rated as having slower write speeds, or maybe go for a 60GB Corsair Force 3.

Just ordered the following :D

i5 2500k
Crucial M4 128GB (Wanted the stabilty of a drive that was fairly quick)
Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen 3
8GB Corsair Vengeance

Thanks J-FRO!

Just need to order the Case, Cooler and DVD Drive :)
