Should I upgrade to conroe?

I already have a Pentium D 930 Dual Core overclocked from 3ghz to 4ghz, with an ASUS P5WD" Premium Mobo, I find it is already very fast, shall I just wait before upgrading?

If your pc does everything you want then don't upgrade. I'd only upgrade if your pc is going slow and not doing the things you want.

My opty 170 @ 2.8ghz was already fast enough.
But we all want more speed lol.

Upgrading to conroe has seen a massive boost in performance. :)

I'm bloody tempted to upgrade from my A64 3200 to a Conroe system, I've got loads of free time on my hands this month and I'm not spending money on anything so I'm struggling to find a reason not to do it lol

It will become more important more CPU raw speed IMO once developers realise the performance they can load onto the CPU.

And of course its fun to have a new toy!

unless you really do have money to burn, i'd suggest waiting.

I got suckered into upgrading to pci-e / a64 from my 3.6ghz p4, and it wasn't really worth it tbh (until i got my 1900xtx)

I too was wondering whether I should make the upgrade now or whether I should wait. I currently have a Opty165 @2.6Ghz with an Asus A8N-E and 2Gb OCZ pc3200. My 1Mb super pi is 31 seconds but the new conroe can do it in 19 at 2.8Ghz with a nice memory overclock.

At the moment I have a P3.2 Prescott S478, 2GB Ram, AGP 7800GS+ Gainward.

Would anyone say its worth me upgrading yet, or is it best waiting?

Its pretty much a clear cut situation for me because my system was a Sempron 2800+ 754 with a Geforce 6800LE. It wasn't really coping with Oblivion and was giving me stability issues when overclocking CPU & GPU (I was desperate to play Oblivion and its a really system killer). The motherboard burnt out after an extended session of Oblivion.

I see that people with much better systems than mine are debating whether to upgrade to conroe. I wouldn't upgrade unless the current system is not coping with the programs/games you want to run.

The Waiting Game in PC hardware is futile IMO.lol
As the saying goes if you were to wait you would never get anything
Get the now,be the now, enjoy the now lol :D
