hey guys, i've been thinking of completely upgrading my system from an AMD 4000 to a Intel E6600, but i was advised that i should wait a little longer as the price of E6600 will go down soon.
I was also wondering how much performance increase i will get if do upgrade from an AMD 4000 to an Intel E6600?

I'm only interested in buying the E6600 as i do quite a lot of video encoding and editing so the 4MB will be a huge benefit, but i am also a frequent gamer so this should be ideal cpu for me.

This upgrade will be quite a bankbuster for me since not only will i have to buy a compatible motherboard for the E6600, i will also need to buy the memory for the system, but in the plus side, i can sell my old cpu along with the motherboard and memory :)

So basically i was just wondering if anyone can tell me if i should upgrade to a E6600 system now, or stick to my current build for now and wait for the price to go down.

Stick with what you've got at the mo. Your system has still got plenty of time left in it! Wait til Q2 when Intel drops price again maybe and the 6320 range comes out! You have basically the same system as mine and theres no need to change at the mo, can still play all the games on full basically! Unless you have money to burn!!

Well actually i just bought rainbow six:las vegas on the weekend and it was pretty much sluggish :(

I have a 19" monitor and i had a difficult time playing the game at 800x600 so i had to crank up the resolution to 1024x768, but that really degraded the performance. Not to an extent where the gameplay was barely unplayable, but it does get kinda laggy when theres a lot of activity going on.
After the painful experience, thats what made me think if i should upgrade, oh well :(

Hmm, thats odd, i heard someone running a 880gts found it sluggish then another person came along and said they were running it fine with a 1800xt on full settings. Is there a patch for that game or something??

Maybe just upgrade you graphics card, sell the 1900xt for £150 then spend £100 on a gts or something!

But if youve got money then go for an uprgrade!

Go for 4300 - £120
Asus P5N-E - £85
Geil 6400 Ram - £165
Gainward 8800 Gts - £250

Total - £600 odd

Then sell your Ram, 1900xt, Amd 4000, Mobo. - should get like £350 for all of it.

you could but i think your current cpu would be worth more to sell atm

Yeah i was thinking the same. I think if i upgrade now i will be able to sell my old components at a reasoanble price, but if i upgrade later then i may have to sell my components at a lower price since they will be abit dated.

Make that 3 of us thinking of selling our gear and getting an E6600... ;)

That game is a rushed unoptimized xbox 360 port. Even people with monster pc's are running it at 800x600. Its unplayable on my pc at 1024x768 with a e6600@3ghz and a x1800xt

I played it on the system in my sig @ 1024x768 medium details and it was ok, but did get sluggish in places, hence the reason for wanting to upgrade my system...

I've just carried out a similar upgrade to the ones you guys are thinking of, see my sig, moved from an X850XTPE, 3500+, 2GB ram to the sig, and have gone from 2k in 3dmark 06 to 7875.

So if you need a bit more processing power it's well worth while.

Also this is all at stock speeds, I haven't tried O/C the components yet. But nothing taxes this system in it's current form, Company of Heroes, every setting set at MAx/Ultra and it doens't even break into a sweat.

Cheers

I've just bought a 4300, Asus P5N-E, 2GB OCZ. Still running my AMD tho at the mo. Probably won't have time over the weekend to set it up as im going out 2nite and 2morrow so will be pretty hungover.

I want to be in the right frame of mind when i set it up, not a walking zombie! :p
