Should I Upgrade to SSD

Currently I have a 5400rpm HDD and I was wondering is it worth upgrading to a SSD?

Will I notice a difference and where will I?

Post your thoughts..

Have you read around the threads on here? There's a lot of useful information not only about should you get an SSD but also when should you.

Gaming, Word Processing and browsing..

Increasing windows boot time is pointless to me but will it make opening docs and applications instantly?

and what other benefits does it have?

No, I can't find them..
When should I buy them?

Less heat and noise production, instant access times, everything will feel snappier.

If you got the moolah, it's the best upgrade you can buy.

Whats the best performing SSD and will it be a bottleneck as I will be using a HDD for storage and SSD for OS.

*im sorry* but if I may ask a question instead of creating a new thread

(edit: sry was writing this before coughs asked the same question in a better way as me lol): for those who have installed OS on SSD and games on HDD...do you still think getting the SSD is worth it?

I've been wanting a SSD for a while now but I keep deferring it due to high cost (already have WD Vraptors) and could get a GFX card instead (looking at 160GB Intel SD)

To partly answer the question: when I was reserching which SSD to buy...the Intel ones were most favourable...although I think as long as it has got TRIM support you should be fine albeit do a quick google search to see if there are any problems.

Depending what you use the SSD for - there shoudl be room for some games. It really is noticeable in some games! If you run games from a mechanical drive, your system will still be snappy. Bootup and Shutdown times are a fraction of what you'd be used to. Raptors would be fine for gaming though.

I've heard they're noisy though, SSD's are silent.

SSD wont be a bottleneck if you get the SATA III one, though if your mobo doesnt have the option you'd need a controller card for it. Saying that though, the SATA II SSD's are really good, I have a 60GB Vertex2 right now.

Depends what the rest of your system is. If you have a decent cpu and enough RAM then you shouldn't experience any bottleneck, except of course when media player loads up your library from your storage drive etc. boot times will be dramatically reduced as will app loading times. If you've maxed every other component, then buying an SSD is actually relieving the bottleneck your slower HDD represents. Generally speaking, the crucial C300 is regarded as the best out there, along with the intel x25. If you have the dosh kicking about, go for it, but if you're looking for a cost-effective solution, you may be able to find better upgrades (eg a gfx card for gaming) if your current spec isn't top dollar

Discussing in there future releases for SSDs, regards when to purchase. Prices are dropping. SSDs are always worht it if you can afford them. Just compare the read/writes with that of a mechanical hard drive. You'll gather an understanding of how it all works.

For instance, I want to record my games (mw2 and such) but the write speed FRAPS requires can put a toll on my current HD. Files reach 4.9GB in a very short amount of time. SSD will help me eleviate the stress. For this i'd go for an SSD with a faster write time like a Vertex 2E. But I also play a lot of games, want levels to load faster, so for this i'd use a C300. It's a balance.

From your link I believe SSD's are dropping in price and intel are releasing new models..

Is there a ETA?
