I recently bought a 500 GB Sata 2 Samsung (HD 502 LJ )to be used as backup drive in my main system; after installation I noticed that it will click lightly when the PC is started, switched off or awakened from power saving mode...

I notified Overclockers and the drive was replaced. However, I was totally puzzled when after installation the replacement drive started doing the same clicks:eek:

It might be worth noting that apart from the mentioned clicks the HDD seems to be working absolutely fine...

I have 2 other Samsung HDD: 500 GB (HD 501 LJ) & 750 GB (HD 753LJ) but none of them have such a symptom...

Your opinion and help appreciated please...

Is it just one click when it turns on or off or is it a repeated click?

If its just the one then it could be the heads parking or moving into position, but then I'm no expert.

PK!

Hi Levirginien

I have the same Samsung HDD and mine clicks once when it is powered down.

I assumed it was the head parking (as misterPK has already mentioned) and find it reassuring to hear that it has parked up safely for the night!

lol @ rjd

yea single clicks are most likely fine. It when you can here it either clicking repeatedly like its getting stuck/mis reading or grinding....grinding is such a horrible noise to here form a HDD that you haven;t got a back up from :/
