Should my 480 devil memory be at 2k when its spec is 8k?

Hope someone can advise,

Spec in sig, I dropped my cpu's oc to 4.5ghz due to game stability issues (random freezes/crash to desktop) rather than full system crashes. Game's now seem stable.

The card is running hot, about 80c in game, but apparently that's normal, cpu temps are relatively cold, but the memory speed seems to be reported really slow. Am I missing something? The memory should be running at 8k not 2k?

I've not touched the gpu config, just plugged it in and updated the latest drivers from the amd website.

Thanks

Yeah, you multiply by four with VRAM to get the effective speed, so 2GHz works out to 8GHz effective. Different programs report one or the other, or have a toggle to choose between them.

80°C is perfectly safe (both AMD and Nvidia reference cards generally target slightly above that), but you can always set a custom fan curve in Afterburner to bring it down if it makes you feel better.

nothing wrong with 80c on the GPU but i do find it a tad high. I have no knowledge of the devel version of the rx 480 but my rx 480 strix from asus is very demanding when it came to proper airflow in my case. I used to have temps like 77-78 and now im seeing 66-71 after i made changes to my fan setup and swapped the case.

Well I fitted the gpu case fan, and plugged in a front case fan.

Results, no noticeable cpu temp reduction, and about 1 or 2 degrees off the graphics card on average. Gained some fan noise/reverberation though Lol!

Set up a custom fan profile with Afterburner. It can lower gaming temps by anything from 10-20 degrees or so. MSI's (and others) default fan profiles are biased towards fan silence, as essentially 80C is within safe operating limits.

A 1:1 ratio profile works great, i.e. 40%/40C, 60%/60C etc.

Thanks, if 80c is specified as safe and normal then I'm not really bothered, it's just it seems a bit warm for my liking.

I certainly don't want extra fan noise for no reason

I do think the temp is a bit high as well, my XFX RX480 Black edition normally stays in the low 50c in gaming with fans at 0 rpm(they come on at 60c, in rare cases mine may hit low 60s).

I would look at case cooling.

Hmm, well the fans are showing full RPM on hwmonitor when gaming, and when idle the temps drop and eventually stop the fans spinning. Assuming 2000rpm is max
