Should OCUK (And its customers) do its bit to "Save the Planet"?

Lol plastic is more environmentally friendly than trees
Erm what?

Trees, at least of the species used for packaging (turned into paper/card) tend to be grown specifically for that purpose, and the waste from it can be composted, burned, turned into bedding, or reused and is basically harmless to animals.

Gaming mice tend to come in plastic packaging that will slice open your arm if opened incorrectly.

I suggest pretty cardboard outer packaging with eggbox style cardboard inner for protection. Just like DJI used to do for their drones, y'know.

Werewolf, you're wasting your time. Youd be better off smashing your face with your own keyboard.

so i'd say leave it, what's of more importance to acheive is to eliminate plastic use where it serves no purpose, like those endless cardboard box with a plastic bag inside food containers, pick one and stick with it ffs

The plastic bag is what protects the food. The cardboard box protects the plastic bag and provides a better material and shape for advertising. If you just picked one, it wouldn't work as well or at all - they both serve a purpose.

also things like tools etc tend to come in hard blister packs, why? [..]

The most common purpose of hard blister packs is to reduce theft in shops. They might also be used to protect workers handling the products from being injured by something sharp, e.g. many tools. They also serve to preserve the undamaged surface customers expect in a new item.

Packaging is rarely as pointless as it's often claimed to be.

A biodegradable wax inner coating to a paper bag will be just as good. I think perhaps down the line perhaps everyone needs to agree to pay a tiny bit more to fund these additional expenses unless they want massive landfill sites near their towns. We're going to run out of space eventually unless some magical omni-plastic recycling technology comes into place.
