Should road laws be tougher on Chav drivers and boy racers?

OK, how about including it as part of the MOT?

I still think that in some cases I've seen round me it would be viable for Wardens to make value judgements about some of the cases. They all carry cameras in London anyway.

a check as part of mot would be a good thing and should be standard, as its impairment to the drivers peripheral view.
i would be very much in favour of that idea :D

i hear ya, and point noted :)

i jsut find in my experience that everyone on the road expects you to do the limit all the time, if i was driving at 20 on straight 30, i would get flashed and honked like crazy

:)

soz to get up in arms, the whole thing annoys me

thankfully it annoys all of us, these people are a big reason for high insurance for new drivers and continually rising insurance as you buy nicer/faster/better cars :/

haha good point Zip :p

also, a 1ltr car can still go over the speed limit at all limits.
on bikes i can almost understand it, however in cars it just wouldnt work imo

Thats why i also suggested restriction, limit the cars to 45mph for the drivers first year, then 55mph for the next 3 years, give them a chance to grow up a bit.

They could still speed in 30 -40mph zones, but i think its as good as can be and will certainly slow them down. especially if the restiction also incures a slow acceleration.

Down here where i live, Learners cant go over 80kph and P platers(provisional) cant go over 100kph.
They can still drive anycar they like unless they live in NSW

but tell them they cannot go on a motorway, or a dual carriageway?
lorries would overtake them, coaches also.

thats not a good place to be for a driver in a car that can only go at low speeds.

also at that point, they can still do 40-50mph along the 30mph zones, or outside schools etc.

also it would limit the amount of people having jobs that needed some driving to be done, or from living too far from work. 45mph would take me near on an hour to get to work i bet!!

What happens when the person in question needs to travel down the motorway to work doing 45mph?

Even Learners (80kph) can go on motorway and dual carriageways even though they are stuck at 80kph.
It is deadfully painfull but it can still be done with out too much hastle.
It does get a little off putting having huge trucks over taking you or sitting up your arse though

Scratching my head here but it is usually nothing usually to do with the speed it is to do with the mentality of the driver.
