Should the BOE issue a £100 note?

Like many have said, is there really need for a £100 note if cash is in decline? You don't even see many £50 notes, so there is no need for another one.
I barely use cash these days and try and avoid shops that are cash only.

You can already get £100 notes from Scottish banks and have been able to for years. Spending them is another matter though… We need £5 coins and £100 notes cause plastic is evil carp

Everywhere is moving to being cashless. There’s no reason to use it anymore. It’s harder to use cash than not.
I don't see any difference myself. In Aldi I often find myself waiting to use the self serve checkouts that take cash and there is often nobody using the card only checkouts.

I was told that you can order £100 pound notes from the bank.
But in general I use contactless payment for most of my purchases, the only thing I need cash for is takeaways.

Even when I'm giving cash is done electronically now; apart from when I'm giving to young childern as it's good to give them something physical, even thou their parents look at me to say; now I got to visit the bank..

I can't stand receiving physical cash as it means I have to visit the bank... lol

I like cash. As a £20 note goes around a local economy, a bank or payment processor isn't taking a nibble of it in transaction fees each time, eventually whittling it down to sod all.

I know quite a few places that have "Cash Preferred" notices now because the payment processors have got greedy.

Nobody can stop you spending cash on whatever you want. Who knows if a supplier will be put on a "Verboten" list at some point and barred from receiving payments for some shady reason. Years ago I'd say that was a ridiculous argument but what with individuals being "de-banked" lately I'm now not so sure.

People that say "get rid of cash" should maybe reconsider that stance IMO. It's a nice freedom to have being able to spend on whatever you fancy without it being tracked (and no I'm not talking about illegal stuff, but whatever floats your boat!).

There was a 500 Euro note, but was basically withdrawn as it was used extensively for money laundering. Whilst smaller I suspect a 100 pound note would be used for the same. As mentioned here, the government as with all governments is looking to become a cashless society so all spend can be tracked.

I suspect for these reasons a 100 pound note will never appear.
