Should the Queen Step Down

63p that could be spent on the NHS, providing better housing, providing slightly better equipment to our troops dying because tax is being spent in places it needn't be the list goes on

63p per person per year and you're complaining? With regards to spending it elsewhere, £36million is virtually nothing, it is pennies in the grand scheme of things. Did you also know that any profit the Royal family make goes back into the treasury as King George ? turned over all profit from the royal estates back to the government.

Well at work they said the next bank holiday we will get off is when the queens been in power for anouther 50 years! Long live the queen

as strange as it sounds she generates income for this country as a tourist attraction, and, as i doubt if she did step down that the monarchy would be abolished, id rather she stay there till she dies rather than giving any of the other twits known as the royal family any more time on the throne than is absolutely necessary

To the people who want a republic, what tangible difference do you think it will make to you? Why do you want a republic over a system which has presided in this country for two centuries successfully?

And so are we made up of Angles, Saxes and Jutes.

Well, that would be Engerland. Scotland, Wales and Ireland are populated (mostly) by descendents of the Celts. In answer to the OP, I see no reason why special homage should be paid to someone simply because of the family they where born into. I see no need for the so called Royal family and would welcome the dissolution of their pointless pomp and ceremony.

Vive la Republica

If a dog is born in a stable is it a horse? They are Germans.

First point, nationality <> species. Is nationality fixed and unchanging because if we trace far enough back you probably come from Pangea, are we all Pangean? Does nationality come from the parents, the place of birth or something different entirely?
