Should we block up our letter boxes?

I've gone paperless on everything I can - so 9/10 items I receive via snail mail are junk. I'm toying with the idea of blocking up my letter box.

Pros:
- saving of paper, ink, recycling, fuel, time, money, etc.
- no junk mail!
- remaining things will go paperless, e.g. polling cards
- better home insulation

Cons
- might miss some mail

I think this all becomes more successful if everyone does it. A quick survey of the office shows young people are like me, and old people love paper and cheques etc. But what do you think?

If you don't have a letter box, most of the spam mail just goes next door and they will constantly be knocking on your door with it. Have fun :)

Is it that much hassle to put junk email in the recycling?

yes it is, I live in SW London in an obviously worth it marketing area, the amount I get per day is ridiculous, it ends up underneath shoes in the hall etc.

and is APITA to pick up everyday, sometimes twice a day

If you have a wood burner, rip up and put all the spam paper into a bucket with water. Once full.... Mulch it all up and then compress into blocks and allow to dry.

Bingo, got yourself some dense fuel blocks for winter.

(saw this guy doing it on the youtubes as a money facing tip)

yup, if I leave my flat for a few weeks the letter box basically gets filled to the brim with takeaway fliers, random stuff addressed to the householder... some of it comes from Royal Mail and you can opt out of that:

other stuff must be just delivered by hand... am half tempted to let it pile up then pick one of the takeaways at random and go post it all through their letter box

Send the mail back to the senders. Or even a better idea, get yourself a cat that bites people's hands off. That will learn them!!!!!!!!111111

Weird! I've never had junk email on my floor. My advice is to stop printing it off.

:p

Given the government want to clamp down on adblocking, it's only a matter of time before all hallways are fitted with CCTV so they can monitor you and you're not allowed to throw anything away until you've read it. :p

Streatham Hill must be a decent area too, I always come home to loads of crap despite the words NO JUNK MAIL stuck to my letterbox
