Due to my ever expanding family, I'm looking into getting an MPV of some description, rather frustratingly Auto Trader and in fact most photos I can find are of the outside or the front seats. I really need to know if I can fit three kids seats in the back or if they have those clever integral booster seat thingies.

So anything realy Scenic to Multipla to Espace and all in between, If you can be bothered I'd love to know what the REAR seats are like.

Thank you all in advance.

Ford Galaxy would be my choice, my sister has one (& 4 kids!) a great car, also, a sturdy one - theres was recently involved in a nasty accident luckily, they walked away unharmed.

The car was wrecked, they wern't, my brother in law is getting a "new" Galaxy as a replacement.

Should have mentioned my price limit is £4000ish so It would be handy if you know approx values a Galaxy would probably just squeeze into this bracket if it was pre 2000.

Note if you get a V6 Galaxy make sure its had the timing belt done, its basically an engine out job and costs a small mint to do, if the belt does snap you can basically scrap the car, V6 galaxy engines are rare ppl are on waiting lists for them.

You could probably squeeze a 2001 zetec for that. Might have some miles on it though. Its probably the only mpv I would consider.

Not an MPV person :p

Parkers.co.uk has photos for most cars

I'd personaly have a multipla, ignoring the design of the outside the inside is well thought out and comfy.

The middle front seat could be usefull for splitting the kids up a bit.

Get a JTD one as the engine is best.

Another review page http://whatcar.com/car-review-summary.aspx?NEW_USED=1&MA_TYPE=1&MA=11&RT=676&Submit1=GO

Its the newer one but makes little different as its only really a face lift

Regardless of how practical it is, the inside is just as ugly as the outside! How anyone could sit in that space daily is beyond me.

Ugly I can cope with. Price, reliability, safety and practicality have to come before looks. It does look like the sort of car you should have a wheelchair lift on though :)

not to doubt you or anything - but i understood that the 2.8 is the same as the golf/passat engine?

I was under the impression that it would have been the same V6 fitted to the Mondeo and i questioned the article at first but its written in Car Mechanics mag, who are very good and know what they are talking about :)

How about a Mazda MPV? My mum's got a 2001 version for £6200 at the auction, should be able to get an older one for about £4000. The rear seat leg room ain't bad,its a little cramp for me(but I'm 5ft 11) I think its a top car, on par with a Galaxy on comfyness(sp). :)

Toyota Previa or the Jap Estima personally ;)

The only bad thing about the Estima is when it goes wrong its generally quite pricey. My uncles Estima had its head gasket go (strangely enough, the day after I took it on a nonstop 350mile airport run after a family emergency), anyway the prices quoted to get the headgasket done were only a couple of hundred less than getting a recon engine and having it fitted, which he had done. I done some small jobs on it myself, such as the starter, which was a bit of a pig too.
Exhaust and suspension parts are also very pricey. Insurance may be slightly more being an import and they were fairly heavy on the diesel, probably due to the weight and autobox.
