I am still rocking with my HD580 from like 2000! I do need a new cable but it has been one of the best £65 i've spent on Audio.

Same, mine did break!
I say break but I accidentally cut one of the wires leading to the other earpiece (while doing the soundstage mod) and it was too short to re-attach.
Plus one earpiece frame was cracked anyway so I guess you could say the excuse to upgrade landed right on my lap
Do they sound any better then? These HD-555s sound so good, I just cant imagine anything sounding better.
I have a feeling I'm going to end up snapping the jack off the end as I'm always tripping over the wire in the dark

I won't comment on the sound until up to 3-6 months of regular usage.
The sound is not broken in yet and my 555s continued to improve month after month (bass levelled up, treble widened and sounded more open than when new).
But so far I am impressed, they sound more lively than the 555s did when brand new.
Also the 595 doesn't have the foam pad blocking about 40% of the grille inside which Sennheiser say provides a 3D like reflection of sound back into the chamber - This is the mod I mentioned above where you remove the pad and internal grille to let the 40% out.

It's actually a USB DAC as well as a headphone amp, so it bypasses the onboard soundcard completely and feeds the signal to my amp/speakers as well... but IIRC you have a Xonar which is pretty good in the first place.

Thanks. In short it angles the speakers towards your ears, reduces parallel internal faces (less formation of standing waves) and allows the closest placement to a wall while allowing enough depth at one end for the driver motor system to be mounted 
The design is meant to be placed against a wall, which provides full acoustic baffle step compensation (as per studio speakers mounted into the wall). Surprisingly with them right against a wall I actually get too much low from them, or around 100-200Hz anyhow, which isn't desireable. I like them moved a bit out from it in practise, or better, EQed back to flat

Btw, is the audio hearable outside of the HD 595's (don't know jack about audio
) and if so, how loud? I want a decent set of headphones £80ish but don't want to disturb all those around me.regards
They're open air so yes you can hear sounds from them but they're not overly obvious like Grado headphones that can be heard from downstairs (!).
STill, if you listen to loud music and are in a quiet environment then I'd recommend closed back headphones such as the Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro or Sennheiser HD280 Pro
