hi

i took my kids to see a night at the museum yesterday at the 14.10 showing , at 14.42 the film started the other 32 minutes were filled mainly with adverts with a couple of previews . now i was getting fidgety so you can imagine what the kids were like .

its an absoulute disgrace that you should have to wait over 1/2 hour before you get to whatch what you paid for

anyway rant over happy new year

cheers

It seems the same everywhere. I hate it too. If you've booked your tickets, just turn up half an hour late and miss the adverts. Problem solved :)

I've seen two films since Christmas: Night at the Museum and Daja Vu.

Both times, once at an Odeon and once at Cineworld, we had to wait a maximum of between 15 and 20 minutes for the film to start, which isn't too bad.

Burnsy

hmmm 30mins is abit overkill! I used to work for Vue and the standard was 15mins of adverts and then previews.

I hate the Odeon in bristol centre, it tends to be 40 minutes or more in there! Its just ridiculous. Because of this i tend to leave my flat 10 minutes after the films should start and i usually get there bang on!

If the films been out for a bit and I know that I could get a good seat easily then i'll just go in 15 minutes late, though my girlfriend likes to watch the adverts to see what's coming out.

Do you realise how much it costs to run a cinema?

Of the £6+ that you pay for the ticket only about 50p goes to the cinema, the rest to the distributor. Thats why 'film food' costs so much. The biggest income for most cinema's is from Carlton, the advertising company that do the ads at most cinema's.

It happens just about everywhere. We usually make a habit of turning up about 30 minutes after the screening time as we know we'll catch a couple of trailers (which are usually good for seeing what's coming soon etc) and miss all the adverts :)

Did you go to the one in Derby? Should have gone to Cineworld instead. Last time we went we upgraded ourselves to the posh leather seats for free (it was empty ;)).

i havnt been to the movies for a while so i didnt realise it had gotten this bad . i think ill take the advice and wait till the film has been out a while then poll in 20 minutes late. the only trouble is some films benefit from a packed auditorium , it adds to the atmosphere sometimes. i went to the one in nottingham.

cheers

I remember the days when the matinee gave us a short film then the feature film (somethines with a break) more adverts then a serial. People don't seem to have the time for it these days.

yes and in the break you strolled down to the usherette to get some icecream , thems were the days hehe

cheers

Wish they still had them, I always get sucked into buying the wheelie bin of coke due to the largest being 10p more than the smallest ;) I always have to pee atleast once during the film. They should bring back the half time that way I wouldnt miss anything ;)

I rarely go to the flicks these days, not worth the money imo. Idiots ruined casino royale for me. I'd rather wait for rental. Must admit i'm surprised that the cinema only gets 50p per ticket.

i usually have to wait or around 30mins or the film to start after the trailers and ads at my local showcase cinema (peterborough)

the ads kinda annoy me but i do like watching the trailers to upcoming films and if it was just 20 mins of those i wouldnt mind but im tired of seeing the same old ads all the time that i have no interest in (the world cup pepsi one for example, no idea how many times i have seent that now)

anyway i like the look of the new film with will smith in (dont know the name but i could easily look it up). i wouldnt have known about that film till maybe a few weeks into its release i hadnt seen the trailer for it.

I timed the wait at my last showcase visit. Here are the results:

Film: Casino Royale
Date: 27th December
Day of week: Thursday
Showing time: 9:30pm
Arrived: 9:27pm
Adverts: 7mins
Trailers: 15mins

Maybe I should make some sort of website on this? ;)

I like the previews of upcoming films, I never know really whats coming out at cinemas so always make sure I'm there early to see them.

I dislike the adverts though, especially the Pepsi ones. God damn awful stuff and its been on there for about a year now.

The last time I went to my local showcase (Peterborough) I noticed that people seemed to just ignore the adverts. The level of talking was the same as the on screen ads for local companies before the lights went down. Only when the previews came on did people start to take notice of what was on screen.

Not suprising they're ignored, most of them seem to be ones from the TV so everyone's already seen them a dozen times.
