Just having the finishing touches put to our new bathroom but need some help/advice about a shower screen. We used to have a curved shower rail and curtain in before but we now have a bigger bath and I'd like a folding screen installed. My Mrs is convinced they all leak and it will look crap. Personally, after spending a couple of grand on a new bathroom I want it to look good and have a folding screen. Anyone had one fitted recently or know any good places to buy them?

I don't know if this will help, but where I'm renting at the moment there's a solid glass screen that's not quite half the length of the bath. Don't get one of those, it's rubbish and doesn't open. If you try to open it or lean on it by accident what happens is that it either falls off (as the hinges are rubbish) your you crack the sealing strip that's meant to keep the water on the bath side of the thing. Crap I say!

Can't see why a folding one should be too leaky, if properly fitted. But personally I'd stick with a shower curtain.

we've got a folding screen on our bath, just goes past the half way point, doesn't leak, good seal and fitted well. Don't lean on it and clean the seal regularly.

Folding ones I've seen don't look as good as the larger single piece units, but they are more practical, never had a leak in any of them. Councils seem to favour them too, which says a lot from a cost point of view :)

urrgh, these shower screens make my skin crawl!

All those crevices, the dirt, bits that hold water, bits that SPIDERS can pop out of as you are in the bath...

Personally I'd never have a shower curtain. They stick to you as soon as water is on. I think the screens are far more attractive and easy to install/maintain.

Shower curtains tend to go grubby and although I realise they are cheap to replace I don't think they look as good as the screens.

What is the bath made of - plastic ones flex when filled, making shower screens prone to leaking. Folding ones are particularly prone to this, and cheaper ones have cheaper hinges so need to be avoided..!
Best thing to do it talk to your local friendly (?) bath showroom or decent plumbers merchants about what goes best with what bath - I used to work doing repairs to rental properties, and so many problems were caused by folding screens that we ended up going over to fixed screens.
Good luck, and be prepared to dig deep - if you do go for anything really fancy, use their own installers, as you will have some come-back if there are problems........
