Hi guys.

Quick one, i have squid all set up and its logging IP addresses only. I need to change this to show at lease computer SSID so the logs are more accurate as the IPs can change being on a DHCP server. Also People can say it wasn't them etc etc.

Any ideas? Searched all over google and either i am searching wrong or it's just not possible.

I'm running squid on Windows.

Thanks :)

Do you have a DNS server running internally that it can query to get the hostname from?

Yeah we have DNS on our DC. I have been testing at home, so do you think soon as i put it onto the network it will pick it up from the DC?

Thanks.

If you're testing it without a system in place that can match IP addresses to hostnames via a reverse DNS lookout then it's not really got any way to work out the hostname of the PC that is putting traffic through it.

Is this a separate system to squid? Or is this a setting to activate within squid?

Sorry totally new to the whole proxy / internet tracking thing.

I think Squid should just do it if it's been configured with those DNS servers. I haven't touched it in ages though so wait for someone else to come along or post to their mailing list.

Thanks caged,

I have tried everything today and i still cannot get it to show FQDN.

If anyone has managed to do this, any tips would be awesome.

Thanks.
