ShutDown problem...XP trying to read a:

Pretty much as the title says really, just lately whenever i try and shut down the pc XP pauses and then claims that drive a: isnt ready and i get an alert box. I dont think ive ever used the floppy drive since i built the pc a couple of years ago, let alone asked any programs to use it.

Ive not added or changed anything recently that would be asking for this.

Any ideas?

have you tried disabling it in the bios? there's usually some settings in there you can tinker with to sort this out.

I know it's not a "fix" as such but worth trying, I dont even have a floppy drive in my pc anymore, haven't had for years

I had this problem and never bother to find it out what was causing it.

I think it was something to do with a virus/adaware scanner. What one are you using?

as above,

this often results from a virus killer app.

Have you installed. changed or updated or even looked at your virus killer in a funny way

they can be funny buggers sometimes.

Ive fairly recently added nod32. maybe thats the problem.

Although its not happened last couple of times now for some unknown reason.
