Hi people. Currently looking for a Remote for my 400D but i'm a little confused as to what to go for.

Is the RC-1 the best option? (also is this wired or wireless?) or are the eBay alternatives just as good?

What is everyone here using?

Cheers.

I just use a wired cheapy one off of ebay. Feels pretty nasty but does the job just as well as the official Nikon one if I'm honest - just make sure you get one that can lock 'on' if you're planning on using it for long exposure work.

Yeah I use a wired one off the bay for my 20D, cheap as chips, only a few quid from what I can remember. I've had it a few years now and it still works fine, like king4aday says get a lock one for long exposures.

yeah a cheapo wired one here too, its only a button on the end of a cable so it doesnt need to cost the earth

Excellent. Cheers for the responses. One question regarding the lock though. Why do i need anything to set the time the shutter is open? Surely that is set on camera beforehand?

With a remote, you can use the camera on bulb mode which means that the shutter will stay open as long as you hold the shutter release button. In the case of a remote with a lock, this can be for hours if you wish. Useful for any exposure over 30 second, such as for star trails etc. If you get a remote without a lock, you won't have the ability to do this.

If you set the camera to bulb mode, the shutter stays open as long as you hold down the switch. You may try exposures like 20 mins at night time, which could result in a very sore finger!

Oops beaten to it...lol

I have a cable release and IR remote from Dealextreme, couple of quid each and both work perfectly. Build quality on them is very good.
