Hi all,

I have never owned a shuttle system but I have got so fed up with my huge PC case that I was thinking about getting one.

If I purchase a barebones shuttle from OCUK am I right in thinking all the system needs is a CPU, GPU and memory?

If so would there be any problems in just using my current GPU and memory? I have a Radeon 9800 Pro but wasn’t sure if it would work in a shuttle system (size etc)

Also what shuttle system would everyone recommend?

Thanks a lot

your right in your assumptions :)

providing you buy a shuttle thats AGP and what ever socket your cpu is, it will all work fine just like a tower.

what cpu and mem do you have that you want to re-use?

Its been so long since I have done anything with PC hardware I cant remmember my specs and dont even know anything about current hardware!!! :)

To be honest I was assuming my processor wouldnt fit as its an old 2.6Ghz P4 Hyper Threaded CPU (cant even remmember what socket type but from when they first came out).
Im not to sure about the memory either but I think it is 4 * 512 Corsair.

Looking at processor prices you can get some fairly cheap processors like a Intel Pentium 4 Dual Core 3.4GHz for around £100.

Im not looking to go cutting edge at all I just want a nice small system on a budget.

from the sounds of it, its probs socket 478. a shuttle that would support this would probs have to be second hand

can get a core 2 for £120odd can't ya :)

though the only shuttle that supports that currently is the SD37P2 (and soon to be SD32G2 and SD32G5)

other than that, check out the micro-ATX cases and mobo's

that P4 you're lookin at should work in any socket 775 shuttle or matx combination AFAIK

oh other thing, you'll be limited to only 2 sticks of mem. the newer P2 type chassis seems to support 4 sticks i think

I managed to squeeze a 9800Pro into a Biostar with literally about 2mm to spare when I was building for my sister, but I assume Shuttles are a bit more roomy.

There's lots of choice if you do go up to an LGA775 processor, and as you stated they aren't really that expensive.
