Shuttle SN25P compatibility questions

To late...You could brought my shuttle sn26p and 200gb sata drive for a lot less then a new one...
 
I had an x1900 xtx card in my SN26P. This card was way too loud, but it also had the best cooling system for the shuttle IMO. When running games with the fan at full power, the amount of heat pushed out of the back of the case was amazing.
When I had two 7800 GTX's, the air was blown towards the front of the case and then through the cpu cooler, resulting in higher cpu temps.
Now I'm running two 7900 GT's. These cards are quite noisy, the fans are always on but they are nowhere near as loud as the xtx at full power. The air on these is blown vertically upwards, and is then pushed out the back of the shuttle via the two little fans situated above the PSU, which is the first time I've seen them put to proper use!

I have sn25p and i was wondering if any of you has the 7800gtx 256mb fitted in this.Does the the Shroud need to be removed ?Does it(the vga) blocks the additional PCI-E slot?How loud are the 7800gtx(refrerence cooling)?

you will have to take the shroud off,the pci slot will be blocked ,i am not sure if there is single slot around yet my card has big cooler.the card is not loud but you can still hear it
 
Some 7800GTX's don't require the shroud to be removed.

For example, my old XFX 7800GTX XXX card fitted perfectly :).. I think you might want to look at the card dimensions and base them on the XFX one. As for blocking the nearby PCIe Slot then, as Wyatt said (yes) you will need to make sure you don't mind blocking it.

First of all,i am talking for the 256mb 7800gtx.I am 99% sure that they all have the same board.So ,normally,if the xfx xxx edition fits perfectly then all 7800gtxs will fit since they are on the same board.
As for the PCIe i am suprised to hear that it blocks it since 7800gtx has a single-slot hsf and the pci-e shouldn't be blocked

Yes, I know you were on about the 256MB variant (hence why I mentioned my old 7800GTX XFX) and when I say blocks.. you could fit a small PCIe 1x card in but it would be snug.

Would be easier if you had a half sized (PCIe 1x) card to go in though - Sorry for not making that clear :rolleyes:

Just set mine up, simple installation, running like a dream, x2 3800 hasnt gone over 30c yet and its VERY quiet. 7900 GT fitted with a lot of room to spare.

Sorry to resurrect this one - what I meant was - improving airflow on the PSU fan + removing 2 of the additional cooling fans = better cooling?

The two fans at the top are mainly nose makers not air movers :)

With them removed and cables tidied,themps dropped slightly.

I will be putting a couple of silent papst fans in their at 5v to see if that offers anything better.

Will report back with findings when i have them.

I noticed the same thing with those fans until I put in 2 7900 GT's. The GT's blow hot air upwards which is conveniently expelled by these two fans. The fans output near enough the same amount of heat as the PSU one now.

thats the thing - i have a x1900xt, so that expells the hot air striaght out of the back of the case.

at the moment its very quiet when ticking over, but i would like it quieter.

The fan speeds up when playing games, but so what, i tend to turn the volume up when playing anyway :)
