Hi

My computer is hitting the 3yr mark and playing games on high at 1280x1024 minimum do not run as smooth.
I was wondering if there is a point of a cpu/gfx upgrade for around £150 in this period of time.

Actual Spec:
Shuttle SN25P - (939 processor and only 350watts)
AMD64 3000+
Sapphire x850GT
2GB RAM
200GB WD

Possible Upgrade:
AMDX2 3800
BFG 8600 256mb

Im open to suggestions, thank you.

Depending on budget, an X2 939 socket (if you can find one), failing that, the equivalent Opteron. Also some people 'I believe' have put x1950 Pro in those, which would be a perfect upgrade route for you.

OEM X2 3800+ is still available on OCUK for £55 believe it or not, spend £95 on a 1950pro 256mb and you are ready for games.

I assume your shuttle is using PCI-E?

Yes it is. So my next question is will my 350w psu will handle the 1950pro for definite?
I know the 8600 needs 375w minimum but im guessing it will still run smooth.

It should, 1950pro does not consume nearly as much power as the rest of the 1900/1950 series. What is the amperage value for the +12V rail if you can determine that?

Not too sure, but this was on the psu
+12Vsb A = 7A
+12V = 10.5A

Well considering that the same SN25P with the same 350W PSU has been tested fine with a FX-60 dual core with X1900XTX I don't think you should have anything to worry about on the PSU front.

Linky removed :)
