What do people think about this barebones setup? I haven't played with a SFF in a good few years and looking forward to trying one out. I'll be running it with a Intel 6320/7900 GS for the time being - but I gather the 400w psu is up to the job!

I'd plump for the SD39P2 if you can find one.

The SD37P2 has 2 PCIe slots, the SD39P2 has 1 PCIe slot and 1 PCI slot, much more useful.

I have 2 SD37P2s and I like them, lots of room for goodies in them and seem pretty nippy too.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the reply - I've actually already ordered the 37P2, this model seems to suit my requirements perfectly well although in retrospect if I had done my research I would have probably gone with the 39P2 instead. :D

But I'm glad you say that your ones seem nippy - I'll only be uisng a cheap cpu in mine, so hope to get 2.2ish out of it without generating too much heat and noise.

Do you know if these would handle a 8800?

Quite a few Shuttles have migrated to 8800 series cards nowadays, both GTS and GTX.

Chapparal on these forums has got a 8800 GTX in his SN27P2 although he finds it keeps the whole system a little warm.

The power supply in the SD37P2 seems quite strong, I've got one which happily runs 2 1950XTX's in Crossfire although it was a tight squeeze....

EDIT: I think Stephen B may have a GTX or GTS in his SD37P2.

8800 GTS definately fits in the 37P2, sitting here with one in mine. Does run a little on the warm side but I have had no issues what so ever with it

I downloaded XPC Tools from the Shuttle website, it gives better control over fans and temperatures. A very useful utility.

That's a very interesting point to know - I wouldn't have known about it! Thanks!

What's the onboard sound like by the way? I know a third party solution would be better, but I'm now in the unfortunate poosition where I can't install a card - DOH :( I haven't got any speakers either but I'm thinking ahead.

How are ya big fella, not seen ya around lately.

Hope you and the wife are o.k way oooop north.

Off topic i know but i aint spoke to ya for what seems like years. :D

You'll like the shuttle, fullspizz my mate has one and it's nippy as hell.:D

The sound seems OK to me, it's more than adequate for my use, audiophiles would doubtless disagree though.

It's a Realtek chip and offers several speaker outputs, although I am just running mine to the speakers in my monitor.

Okay it's as I expected then. I'll make do and if I like it I can always upgrade in due course. Looking forward to getting my kit tomorrow haven't played with one of these in years. Be interesting to see how they've improved. Thanks again.

Bloody hell mate

Hope your o.k now.

Nah not got there yet but ya never know ;)

Alright geezer ;)
The Sd37 is pretty nippy and a doddle to get going.
Make sure you get the latest bios as this enables the use of the proper memory dividers for 200mhz and above.
Mine is as quiet as hell really, only ever hear it when it boots up for a fraction of a second, then it settles down.

I have a 1.8Ghz [email protected] easily, no volt tweaks or owt.
There is also a 8800GTS in there as well, the fit is a bit tight but no cause for concern.
I find the onboard solution more than adequate for my needs.

Stevie,
Off to pick the Audi up tomorrow :D Should be an "interesting drive" back. :p
