anyone has the experience recently of getting there door license?? i am just waiting for mine to come back. and so far the SIA have put my application through wrong, Sent all the correspondence to 10 doors down the road. and the best one of all they have LOST my Driving license and the paper counterpart!!

sorry for the rant but ive now been waiting 4 weeks and im still not at the decision stage, 3 of those 4 weeks were spent telling me that i had got the application wrong and needed to re-do it, and finally they have realised that its there fault :(

im now getting close to some work on a film set which i cant do without the license on my belt :(

just wondered if anyone knew a rough time scale from the checks stage to the license arriving through my door?

thanks for the site!

well i am just at the waiting for criminal check. i have work coming up end of feb / start of march and have told them this. i really hope its through in time!!

thats good to hear! well i will keep chasing them once this check is done! apparently i should get the check back here before the sia update there site :/

awww well. they still have 5 weeks lol

Four weeks is nothing really when it comes to waiting on the S.I.A processing an application. Some of my colleagues have had to wait 6+ months on theirs due to mistakes the S.I.A had made including sending a licence with the wrong name on it, with mine taking around 4 months. After you receive your disclosure it will probably be another 2-3 weeks until you receive the licence.

Are you working directly with the film studio or with a security company? If the latter then they should have no problems putting you into work right away as long as they know your application is being processed.

ive been told that i need the badge to work :( i cant work of the LDN!( i think its that one lol) :(

so i will keep calling them once the decision is in! its a year long contract on the film set so i can go up whenever, but still i want to be there from the start really

Do you need any qualifications or experience to apply for a badge, or can anyone basically just fill out an application form and get one?

And if you already have a cleared CRB check, do you need to get it done again?

you need to do a 4 day course! and there are then 2 exams! once you pass that you can then apply for the license (thats for the door supervisor badge)

yes they do the check themselves its all included in the price

Hugely tempted to get an SIA license, would mean i could work on the doors again, would make a nice extra bit of cash in the pocket :]

only reason im doing it. although i have got lucky with this film work :) if it all falls into place :)

i am very tempted to do a lot of festivals this year to! money seems very good

festivals can be great money, you get to do stupid amounts of hours and if you can get in with the normal staff then you might be able to bag some time during the setup and take down periods. Boring work at those points, but easy money.
I remember doing glasto for a few years, would be there about 10days before and around a week after. excellent bit of cash hehe

yea i was talking to a mate than did a 8 day stint last year! took home a grand . not bad, but he did say its 12 hours day for 8 days straight!

i got lucky and do marshaling in bideford. so have a door job lined up. although its not were i would like to be!! dont really like working there, but i have no choice like you said there are no pubs / clubs taking on!

how old are you?

Have either of you ever done door work or anything like it before?
stewarding doesnt count because its nothing like it :p

i have / do at the moment as i work under the license of my boss, and have a LDN from the SIA allowing me to work! :)

seems ceasers in town have just cut down on there door staff as its so quiet at the moment! crabbies im still not sure about there staff! not sure if i like them or not lol

Well one guy I knew had everything of his lost by the SIA (birth cert, passport, driving license + other bits) and then buggers tried to charge him a new higher fee when he resupplied all the documents they lost.

As for mine took me around 8 weeks (I had a clean CRB) although they did CRB me twice by accident, but I didn't have to pay nowt extra.

bit like mine then!! luckly mine just turned up on saturday!! not sure how they go from admitting they had lost it to it just arriving!!

Aye, I've done a few shifts to cover in Swindon/Chippenham... which was... well, it was an adrenaline rush at times.

i've noticed this a lot, if / when anything kicks off the adrenaline just takes over, i ended up with a bloody nose and cut lip the other week when 8 guys pilled in to each other, i didn't notice anything until the bar staff made a comment about me bleeding!

its difficult to look out for yourself and one other when there 8 of them and 2 of us lol

Crabbies... ummm... I wouldn't. My sister used to work in the waterfront in W/Ho!, and they share doormen, what with both being Braddicks pubs... apparently some of em are right swines.
And not well paid either.

how long ago did your sister work there? i used to drink down there most nights!

yea i have noticed a lot are ..... ummm well..... you know! but didnt want to say anything incase you had any work lined up there lol

Some of em are utter planks. My sis worked there... ummm... maybe two years ago to just after the new year before the one just gone... I think.
Siobhan her name is.

Nah, my dad lives in Chippenhamd and we spent a few days with him and my uncle, who does the doors there, was short staffed and asked me to lend a hand.

id prob recognize her, didn't know many names there.

quigs are apparently always changing there door staff. dont know why that is, guessing there not great to work for!

we get people in every week asking for door work!

Aye, I know the guy who manages quigleys and sherry's in b'staple... he's an ok bloke as long as you're not working for him apparently.
Mind you, quigs always looks desolate now, there's never anyone in there.

yea everywhere around here seems like that though! very quiet at the moment / recently

Just a little note on festival work, be careful who you choose to work for go for one of the main players or a large subby as me and some guys I worked with last yr at global have had real problems dragging money out of the guy we worked for.
But it is very good money £400 for 2 days work cant be sniffed at

yes, all seems very good! i would be working for the same company that a few mates worked for last year

my license has been granted :D should get it next week apparently. very quick considering they cocked it al up to start with, i only got to the start of the check stage on the 19th . 11 days later its being sent out :D
