I have total respect for the only English team to win the world cup and I realise that none of the 'living' members of the team have any influence on the amount of exposure their success still warrants at present day.
But, in the name of the lord, I am sick sick sick to death of everything relating to 1966 - it pains me to even see the numbers one nine six six together!!
Am I alone? Does anyone have a similar feeling towards the way the media milks every single last drop of it? It's ridiculous and very very boring - And while I am in rant mode - I am sick of everything to do with the following ::

Rooney
England Expects
We Believe
Sven / Real
Metatarsal
Scan

Other than that, 3 days to go! Excellent.

I agree about being fed up with all of the above.

But not '66 :p trampling the German's on our home turf in the world cup final can never get stale.....ever, they must be reminded of their shame at every oppertunity, preferably with a good blast of the great escape.
 
I completely forgot about the Jamaica game and have only skimmed news stories and it's not bothering me, just don't read papers and it won't be a problem.

The only thing that bothers me is during the tournament being too England focused, I'd rather hear about the game I've been watching then head to the England camp for some pointless update.

Worse still is during the latter stages when the commentators bang on about if only it was England, how close we were, blah blah blah and spoil the game
 
Yes I feel your pain. It really is wearing very thin on me. Wether we win it or not there will be another two weeks of either celebration which I can bear a bit more or a media investigation while we lost!!

Awful.

Let's just get the football underway and see who is fit and get on with it
 
Dunno about how other countries go about covering the world cup but we must be the only ones whos media seem so self centered on ourselves before , during and after it?

I GUARANTEE 100% England will be mentioned on the opening world cup show on Friday in the first 10 seconds even though they aint playing!

I GUARENTEE 100% in every game England arnt playing the commentators will try and find out a link between at least 1 player on both sides and England e.g. "<insert English club> fans might remember <players name> as he once played for you"

If England get knocked out I GUARENTEE 100% the commentators will mention us in every following game and what might have been had we not got beat.

Now im as patriotic as the next bloke but it gets on your wick after a months build up and then a 5 week tournament

oh and I dont want some crap pointless interview with an England player during every show either telling us nothing.
 
I was going to post a thread similar to this at some stage today and I'm glad you beat me too it.

I was born in the Republic of Ireland and as long as I remember we had loved watching England getting beaten, especially in soccer.

This is the way I was brought up and took me a long time to change my attitude however I still believe that the majority of Irish football fans will be in the pub cheering on England's opposition every step of the way.

If you were to ask why this happens you'll get a number of answers relating to the Ireland's history of English occupation etc. but I don't think this is the true reason.

The put it down to the English press. They are by far your own worst enemy. Constant invasion of player privacy
Glorifying average player performances
Being over critical of bad performances
Constant reminders of 66
etc.

If the press were to cool the jets a bit you'll find England picking up a lot more support from the neutrals.

Saying that it's time for the Irish nation as a whole to lose the long lasting chip on their shoulder. It's pointless, causes tension and unjustified.

I for one will be cheering you on and would like to wish you guys all the best in the World Cup.
 
I hope we win, my employer has invested heavily in England merchandise to sell.

Meh, what the hell, I don't really care if he wastes his money - England can lose, its fine by me ^^

EDIT : BTW, we may have won the 1966 WC, but germany have won a load more recently, its a shame uk has such an ego going on and on about 1966, I bet germany are pretty happy singing 1990 and 1996...

Other countries are just the same if not worse..

Korea vs Ghana....

The showed the Korean line up 11 times...they didnt show the Ghana lineup once :o
 
What I'm really fed up with over the years, is the never ending moaning about the media coverage England gets each time the World Cup or Euro's are held.

Why is everyone so surprised, they're huge events and most English people want us to emulate 1966, which was the biggest sporting event this country's ever held and our greatest sporting achievement.

The World Cup is a massive event all around the globe and we're not the only country obsessing about it, as it sells papers/mags, if it didn't, then it wouldn't be such big news.

If someone is fed up with the media coverage, turn the tv over or turn the page, it's as simple as that and something that even I can manage without much hassle. ;)
 
Why do the media go on and on about it? All it shows is that England haven't been good enough to win it since :p :D

Now Scotland will never be good enough to win it but we know that ;)
 
im getting a bit sick of all the people that moan on at any sporting.. or national event..
