Sick of Games Not Working

The Quad Core 2's are still very good CPU's. They still go for quite high prices on the bay 2nd hand. Its more about the GPU these days with games, mid to high end last generation CPU's are more than enough for new release games today.

Very good is an exaggeration. They're good for certain uses but they're very old now.

FPS goes up a lot with a fast CPU in modern games, it's certainly not a case of it being more about GPU.

The list goes on ..... or not.

BF4 shouldn't be on the list its a BETA.

ARMA 3 is a cpu hog and your cpu is old

Rome 2 is apparently shocking they should be ashamed.

BF3 does not run great on older cpu/gpu's. Mine was fine with everything off/low and mesh on high. It felt sluggish on 64 player maps with loads going on.

The irony is consoles are more PC like than ever before only that they have the massive advantage of uniform hardware and software which decreases the likely hood of problems.

???

Rome II is fine after patch 3 (it was a lot better after patch 1 tbh) and I'm playing BF4 at around 65fps - which is only around 20fps less than I was playing BF3 @ - and BF4 is a beta!

Console games are hardly perfect... FIFA 14 is shocking on PS3, really basic bugs making certain game-modes unplayable for a lot of people. Also today's GTA multi-player release sounds like it was load of garbage as well.

Tell anyone trying to get on GTA online tonight that console games are perfect.
I had issues joining servers on BF4 beta on xbox but PC version is ok, barring some fairly hefty FPS drops.

Currently rocking a Q9450 and can't believe it still feels fast and snappy. Looking for an upgrade now but the value this thing has given me is incredible.

Your an experienced PC gamer.

I would take this as a rant and you should no better.

Games are no different, just MANY more variables nowadays.

Complaining about a Beta not running 100%? Erm...

You, my young linguistically challenged friend, obviously did not play PC games 10+ years ago. Things are certainly not more complicated to get running these days due to 'many more variables'.

PC gaming is as dull as dishwater these days.

The story telling in most games is rinse and repeat with a twist that makes about 5% of the story. Nothing wrong with that itself but they all try to make that 5% be 90% and it fails.

Some of the indie games are good but the down side for me is the production values of them. Hypocritical of me but there you go.

The MOD scene seems to less focused as well due to the CASH cow companies GREED. (nothing wrong in profit, GREED is different) and there DLC strategies.

F2P has also destroyed stuff, games used to rest on there laurels with a DEMO but maybe im getting old and resitant to change but every F2P i have tried so far has been **** once you start getting into the nitty gritty. Its sloppy way for publishers again to tbe greedy.

The only things im looking forward to for PC gameing in general

1 - Oculus Rift (GAME CHANGER, lets hope they dont get bought out by GOOGLE, MS etc)
2 - Elite
3 - Star Citizen
4 - X - Rebirth
5 - More content for The Secret World
6 - A decent team play FPS (red orchastra is not cutting it anymore)

As for ARMA 3, its no different to ARMA, ARMA 2 on release give it 6 months and it will be amazing.

COD or BF Series wont be installed due to rip off pricing structures.

I was playing computer games while you were trying to figure out how to get milk from the mammaries young whipper snapper. Proper games on a proper computer, even if a little BASIC.

Typo corrected, thanks :)

While you were still in nappies, gaming on a personal computer had little to know compatibility problems like we see nowadays. Yes, games are more complex, but like for like, the games of the 80's and early 90's were also complex for their time but compatibility problems were less so because gamers only used certain kit anyway for the most part and developers programmed around this and gamers only purchased what worked.

The variable being that nowadays, rigs are a proper mish mash of components and instead of the consumer buying what works, there is so much choice that it has become the responsibility of the developer to ensure their games work on these setups.

DirectX although making development easier, created new problems.

Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong :D

If your going to play games that are designed for consoles then yes they will be dull for a PC enthusiast.

F2P is one of the best things to happen for PC gamers, Lotro ? Marvel Heroes ? Tera ? Black Mesa ? Planetside 2 ? Dota2 ? Hawken ? WoT's ? LoL ? Warframe ? all to name but a few. Nearly everyone of those games mentioned has top of the range game play, graphics and massive communities.

@OP - Anything with pre-release or beta should not really be judged as a game.

+1

That said I completely agree with SPG's list up to number 4.

Love to see how Rome 2 would perform on a console *roll-eyes*

As mentioned, you managed to pick all three games that are either Beta or incredibly tough on hardware. In the case of Rome 2... everyone reports it's horribly optimised.

Gaming on console? Pfft.... so simplistic and basic. Everything is dumbed down, and auto aim is terrible, completely destroys skill.

Sorry, all of those games you mentioned are fine infact great. However the game changer is simple, be competitive you need to pay and you end up paying more than you would for a game outright. It is not a level playing field. Of course there is the exception to the rule.

You don't need to pay anything for League of Legends, it's all fluff stuff anyway.

Anyone else feel the same?

Rome 2 is a mess, Arma 3 is unplayable online...the list goes on.

1. Rome 2 is not a mess and wasnt on launch, it needed a few tweaks which it has now had and is highly playable.

2. Arma 3 runs perfectly for me, and even was in beta.

Believe its a case of my pc being a bit underspecced, I have a q6600, 6870 and 4gb ddr 2 ram.

However I can play BF3 on very high with great performance, and I play war thunder maxed.

Its like developers dont bother optimising their games anymore and you just have to have the latest and greatest specs to get a decent experience.

Bit underspecced? More like massively....that cpu is crud, yes yes it was good 8 years ago on release but its so old now. You really need to upgrade since cpus have come along ****ing way. Its not about GHZ anymore its about all the gumpf in them that maximise the GHZ presented that matters.

and bf3 is not the pinnacle of gaming im afraid to say.
especially when all the games you listed are massively more cpu intensive.
