I am sick of iTunes and iPods (poor quality and not user friendly) sorry to all those mac lovers but I have had enough!!!!!!!!!

I recently built a new PC and iTunes won't let me sync music saved on Ipod to latest iTunes software on new PC. It will sync songs from iTunes library towards Ipod and erase all content on iPod. I do not feel like loading hundreds of Cds manually to put them in library AGAIN

Needless to say this is a royal pain in the A............

I want to change to another player something easier to manage files. I have two questions:
1. how do i get the music I bought on iTunes store transfered to other mp3 player?
2. how do I get music from iPod to my computer without iTunes library etc... and into my Windows music folder?

Appreciate your help in liberating me from cumbersome and intrusive Apple world of HYPE (it is as bad as SonicStage from Sony)

Cheers

Are you using a Mac at the moment?

If you're trying to transfer songs from a Mac-formatted iPod to a Windows PC then the short answer is; it can't be done.

The Windows machine will try formatting the iPod as soon as it sees it (because it can't read the filesystem).

An alternative is to transfer the files across a network, or save the files on the iPod (by dragging them on to it in disk-mode) and thus using it as a small hard drive. Then when you get the PC, transfer them off in disk mode and then wipe the iPod.

Can I ask what you hate about iTunes specifically? I've always found it very intuitive and powerful for mass-library management.

before i moved to mac, i used numerous different programs on my windows system. Winamp, WMP, media monkey etc etc.
Since moving to mac itunes was already there so thought id try it, i can't believe i never used it before. I think its a really good, easy to use bit of software, especially if you use an ipod.
Why do you say its poor quality? New gen ipods actually provide pretty good sound quality.

He's probably using the standard headphones and default ripping settings.

I use some high-end Shure earphones, and rip at 320kbps AAC (lossless would be insane on my MBP), and it's very very nice!

I disagree - the quality is not so good relative to many other players; also the better the headphones you use the more this becomes apparent...

(I'm talking about the 5G video, I haven't tried the new nano/shuffle)

I would really like some help if anyone has suggestions.

This thread is not intended to debate what you feel about iPods. If it is just to tell me how great Ipods are - please refrain I have one, so you won't convince me. It is totally proprietary environment, not user friendly, since I cannot even move music files around. The point is you cant do what you want with music you purchased totally legally. DRM and iPod sync are rubbish.

All I want is freedom from this nonesense ... Still would like some help if any have suggestions. :)

- yamipod (linux compatible too)

Quite a few audiophiles have actually switched to ipods recently, I know previous gen ones were totally rubbish but the gen 5 and above do offer great sound, except for maybe lacking in the bass department.
Best SQ is apparently offered by Kenwood portable players, but 5th gen ipods are up there with the new irivers, iaudios etc.
I use Futuresonics Atrio M5 IEMs with my 5G ipod video and it sounds pretty good, especially with lossless files. I also have a portable headphone amp when I feel really geeky and want greater SQ lol.

Why can't you rip your music in MP3.. this way it will have no DRM and you can move it around as you wish? ;)

Why not try WinAMP library if you're going on PC..

Dunno whats wrong with ipods tbh. I've had 3 of them now and they've all done exactly what it says on the tin.

Your mistake here is using itunes to rip your music. As suggested before, use sort of MP3 ripper (I use Nero 6 Ultra) then stick them on your ipod. They also won't be encrypted.

Another piece of advice. I've bought a considerable amount of DRM'd music through itunes and burned it all to CD as audio, then.....well I'll let you work out what do from there so that you have none DRM'd music :D

Not a great idea really though is it?

Burning the 128kbps music to CD then ripping again is going to leave a nasty mess at the end ;)
