sick of vista?

Well you are obviously not happy so perhaps you should. But why is it so shocking, would you explain a little.

You're going to get a lot of mixed view here. Big can of worms, really.

However my opinon is sort the system out first, defrag, virus checks, driver updates ect. As my Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit runs perfectly, no problems. Games I find just as fast, if not, faster then my old XP Pro 32bit setup. ;)

Oh I wonderd when you'd show up, Fire Wizard. :p
Sorry to be off topic. Due to the content of your other posts in the Windows section, are you by any chance studying Microsoft or work for them?

on my rig games run much smoother on xp hence i went back to using xp 32bit,

my rig is C2D 2.4gz , 2gb memory, 6800GT, raptor 70g (i think), no silly questions asked, best is to dual install xp and vista and play with both for few weeks,

i still love the way vista looks, but xp is much smoother in everythig i do so xp for the win,

ok i have vista x64 a q6600 lastest drivers sp1 rc1 installed , this is a fresh vista install 8800 gtx again latest drivers cant run cod4 worth a crap ! jerky as hell saw videos on u tube with a guy with same set up runs silky smooth so whats up , also have 2 gb ram thats at 1440x900 ! this card should eat it for breakfast , tested my memory etc as well , checks out , i didnt have a problem with the demo etc of cod4

Tried removing SP1? It is basically just a beta so likely has problems.

Also 64Bit Vista will use more memory than 32Bit, it would be smoother with 4GB of RAM.

Why not Dual Boot between XP and Vista, use XP for games and Vista for everything else.

Vista can only get better and installing a Beta of SP1 can cause a whole load of trouble. Just wait until the final release.

When dual booting make sure that you install XP first, then Vista.

Hey rippling, something is definitely not quite right and I have a feeling it's not Windows Vista itself causing the performance loss in Call of Duty 4. If Call of Duty 4 and your other games are running so poorly to the point that it is unplayable then it could well be a driver issue.

If you could type in System into the start menu search bar and then click on "System" itself. Once the "System" window has appeared, click on the "Windows Experience Index" button and write down your subscore for each component listed if you don't mind.

Glancing over at your signature, you should be able to play any game to date at near enough maximum settings, also taking into account the resolution you are playing games at. I also cannot see any obvious problems with your actual hardware configuration as regards to finding the appropriate drivers.

You have also tested your memory by running Memtest? :)

Also 64Bit Vista will use more memory than 32Bit, it would be smoother with 4GB of RAM.

In my opinion, adding more memory to rectify rippling's problem won't help since his problem lies elsewhere and not simply down to the lack of memory in his system. 2GB of RAM is more than enough. :)

Im glad you sorted it out but from your first post it seems you did a fresh install & installed the beta SP1 from the get go, bad idear if that is not the case then it should have been ok before you put Beta SP1 on because thats what you have now & you should have worked out that things went bad after beta SP1 & did a re install anyway with out the moan.
