In Sid Meier's Pirates! you take the leading role of a Pirate Captain in the 17th century Caribbean amassing fortune and fame in an attempt to seize your rightful place as one of the most revered (and feared!) pirates in history. Test your skills as a sea captain exploring the high seas and exotic ports in a richly detailed 3D world. Overtake the enemy and seize valuable booty. Exchange plank-shattering broadsides in fierce naval battles, and engage in duels with worthy opposing captains.

As your reputation and skills grow, so will the size and quality of your crew, and your ability to take on larger enemy ships, raid and plunder heavily fortified ports, and locate ancient treasure. There's a whole cast of interesting and dangerous characters to meet, mysteries to solve, exotic island destinations to discover, and powerful alliances to forge!
The new Sid Meier's Pirates! carries on with the great gameplay and design simplicity tradition of the award-winning original while adding more challenging and exciting battle options, and a deeper and more varied role-playing experience, including multiple paths to a wealthy, happy retirement. This and many other features and additions make this gaming classic one of the most highly anticipated releases of this century!

Its a budget re-release thats being advertised quite a lot.

Wouldn't mind giving this a blast if its fun.

I found it a lot of fun and it takes a long time to complete it, that is if you decide to follow the story (rescue family/revenge) or if you just decide to do your own thing.

It's based more on the Hollywood style of pirate rather than the real world so it's not very realistic, but it is fun. :)

This game is a strange one.

During the first few days of play, it is awesome and really addictive, leaving your playing deep into the night. Always something to aim for, be it a better ship, more items, gold, expanding your crew, chasing down pirates etc. At this stage it's the kind of game you would expect to get 90%+ scores.

However, after 1-2 weeks once you have defeated the top10 baddies and collected all the items etc, the novelty starts to wear off. Sailing into the wind becomes a chore, and fights are starting to feel really repetitive. The desire to keep plugging away is wearing off and your estimation of the game's quality starts to drop - it's no longer a 90% game, maybe low 80s.

^Obviously not everyone will agree with the above, but that was how I felt and from speaking to others I'm not alone.

If its the one Im thinking of then it was the dancing bit... seducing the governers daughter or whatever the hell that bit of loosely pirate based plotline was...

it really annoyed me to the point of uninstalling...

rest of it... excellent...
