I honestly do not know what to make of this. After Beyond Earth I have lost all faith in the related franchise....

I want a new developer to come and wipe Sid Meier's strat games away. So boring just using the same engine and adjusting the content a little to look like somit diff when a mod could probs have done the same thing.

I want something totally new and not somit by "Sid Meier". Sure he made a few good games in the past which were good and new but there just rehashing his name now just for profits instead of yearning for pushing for somit new. I dont think he even has input in the games anymore.

I moved onto Europa Universalis 4 after Civ 5. Took me a bit to get the hang of it, Civ feels so simple now I doubt I'll go back.

Yes you definitely needed the packs, Civ V became very good in the end. It was the same with Civ IV to be honest, although there was definitely more meat on the vanilla game.

BE won't ever be redeemed I don't think.

Meh, surely people who want this type of game would have grabbed GalCiv 3. Anyone know when Stardrive 2 comes out? That'd be another competitor if it's soon.

Most Sid Meier games become good after the expansion, but are not worth playing in the first year. Its as if they deliberately leave a gaping hole in the design to make the 2/3 price follow up mandatory.

I'm sure I mentioned this in the Beyond Earth thread, but all the decent stuff with Sid Meier's name on it was basically nothing to do with him. Everything he does goes back to a few original DOS concepts, and these days he's not even really much more than the recognisable name stuffed on the box...

Brian Reynolds was the person responsible for the Civilisation concept, and IMHO it's very unfortunate that it got Sid's name stuck on it.

It's a similar deal with the Railroads series; He designed the original DOS Railroad Tycoon concept, but had absolutely no input into 2 & 3, and then released a steaming pile of junk with Railroads.
