Hey,

I currently have a super lanboy case but my components are getting pretty toasty in there!!

I wanted to put a 120mm fan in the side window but was wondering how difficult it would be. Could it be done will a drill and a coping saw or will I need something better to cut it with. Also I dont think the edges will need to be too neat as I have seen some trim for sale that will go round the edges.

Im thinking of putting in the bottom left hand corner to cool the graphics card. Here are some pics of the case atm.

Just wanted to know what your opinion on the subject are?

well u could get a 120mm drill bit :) but a drilla nd saw would do. if your not confident buy a sheet of pvc and cut that first b&q sell it

Cool I have some spare off cuts of PVC lying round from when I helped mod the side window on my friends thermaltake shark. I will have a play around and see what happens.

Will be harder in perspex than metal due to the fact you need to use a slow drill, too fast and the heat from the friction will burn the perspex.

Make sure you mask off with masking tape too. Measure twice and then tap the centre with a punch, then use a small drill bit which should rest in the dent you just punched. Drill and make your pilot hole.

Then hole saw, which you will need a 114mm - 117mm (anywhere within that size should be fine).

Then just the four holes for the fan :)

I've just been cutting random shapes in side panel windows today. Only used a dremel.

So long as you take your time and have a steady hand you shouldn't have a problem.

Yeh I did think of a dremmel but I dont really want to go out and buy tools etc. I think I will have a practice at the weekend and c how it goes.

Using trim to neaten the edge sounds like the way to go. Just remember when cutting the perspex, you can always take a little more off, putting some back on is the tricky part.

Just remember to go 74mm for an 80mm Fan,114mm for 120mm,the given sizes include the fan frame.Sounds obvious, but it`s been forgotten in the past ;)

Depends how thick the Perspex is, 1mm difference makes a............well difference. i have found 3mm sooo much easier to work with than 2mm, or is that 4mm and 3mm, cant remember.

If you don't have the tools or the confidence there are lots of people who do modding professionally and will take your part and do whatever you want to it. I managed to get the guy in my local B&Q (Norwich) to cut me a 120mm hole in an aluminium panel. I would caution against this particular modification though as the Lanboy is a very good cooling case, so I suspect that if it's too hot you either need to put less toasty things in it or you need to upgrade the existing fans to higher flow models.

What is getting too hot?
