Hi, I bought the perspex for the side window cut it to shape but when drilling for the fixing holes on the fith hole it cracked, what I would like to know please is there a special drill bit to use to reduce the this happening, I have enough to do 1 more but would like to do it properly, I need to be able to drill 12 holes, should I drill it on a piece of wood same size to stop stress points? any help you can give will be very appreciated, thank you..
Wayne,;)
p:s perspex is 4mm..

With such material bending stresses should definitely be prevented.
Also doing hole in couple phases starting with smaller drill and then with final size might help because you wouldn't have to press drill into it with as big force "to get forward".

What Esat says all seems to make sense to me :) I was just going to say take your time and dont use too much pressure. going through nice and slowly is a much safer way of doing it

Clamp a piece of wood to both sides of the plastic, use a metal dril bit (a drill bit that is used to drill metal, not just any bit made of metal ;) ), use the drill at full speed and perhaps add a few drops of water every couple of seconds or so.

Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for your advice guys, I shall start again tomorrow and see what happens, I may go and buy 3 new drill bits (special metal bits)end size needs to be 6mm so I may go 2mm then 4mm then finally 6mm, keeping the perspex on a flat piece of wood, I will leave on the protective cover and also may use silver tape on both sides.I will clamp it down with 4 clamps maybe to keep it from moving.A friend of mine has said to use drill oil to help it or diamond tipped bits may help...Thanks all,, hope the heat is not bothering all your machines..

ive found that using blunt drill bits works flawlessly, tried using a sharp bit and carped it up almost straight away
