Sideways nod

I've noticed that most riders who give you the nod tilt thier head sideways rather than forwards. Assuming it shows I am a member of the secret squirell bikers club, I have taken to doing it to, but I don't actually know why. Is it to make the nod more obvious, or maintain forward visibility, or some other, totally obvious reason that I'm missing?

1st rule dont go posting on the web about one of our oldest traditions.

2nd rule dont call us a secret squirell bikers club, it sounds like a cult. When we are more like a guild with are own range of leathers.

I'd expect easier to see the nod... when you nod forward could be that you're just dozing lol... side ways is old school kinda "hello sir, please to meet you" lol. Seems 95% pf bikers do a sideways jobbie!

Who knows, but I love the way bikers acknowledge each other, I've been doing miles and miles on a 125CBR YEt all the proper bikers still acknowledge me and not with a finger either or a loser sign lol

I assume that it makes it less likely to be confused with "I'm checking the instrument panel" or "I just hit a big pothole".

I just don't understand the people who don't nod back.

I nod at everyone, even got a nod from a bike cop once (he almost lost control of the pedals), and usually throw a "**** you then" at a non nodding biker.

I always assume non nodders are either sunny weather weekend bikers or *****.

Maybe they are angry because the wife said no to putting out and the rider had a bad day at work or the rider could be looking at the car infront waiting for the mobile phone to become glued to the ear!

Dunno, I have yet to get a nod. Saying that the lessons I am having I have not seen another biker out yet.;)

Also if you're riding round MK a lot getting nods across dual carriageways is not as easy as a single carriageway.

Can get a bit mental around here especially when Mallory or Donny has a meet on you can be doing nowt but Nodding, When I come home I feel like I have a flinch. :p
Most nodded to me though even though I was on a Chinky Chopper. :o
I do love all that war horse comradeship though. :p

Mallory biking days are mental for it! Ive decided that when I nod to a group, I nod to the first and the last of the group, everyone inbetween should understand :P.

Much closer to getting your MOD2 done 4T5? Update your thread damn it! ¬_¬

Do you include members of the local chapter riding their Harleys and/or scooter riders? I've pretty much given up nodding to people on cruisers as I can't ever remember getting a response. Scooters....well I don't want to come across as all superior but they aren't really bikes. My uncle has a 125cc Scooter for commuting to work on (saves using the 996 or GSXR750) and calls it his "poof chariot" :D

I just nod at everyone on a bike. I've had at least 1 nod from a Harley rider and I do usually nod at scooters unless they're obviously shell suited chav ******s. I don't like to discriminate but i wish people had to put their hair colour on their helmets as I would not nod to gingers no matter what bike they were on.

Haha, this cracked me up!

I nod to all the bikers I see, and always wonder why some of them don't nod back. Normally it's the Harley riders, though a not insignificant number of the non-nodders are sports-bike fully-faired power-ranger types. Obviously they don't love the Bonnie!

I'm ashamed to admit I don't nod to scooter riders or Harley riders.
I nod to BMW riders but that is looking likely to change as they are going the way of the Harley bunch rapidly with their reluctance to reciprocate.

Ive done just over 170 miles on my Hyo over the past few weeks and absolutely love the nod I instantly took to it having them thrown at me left right and centre lol at first I thought they were taking the **** but every chance I see now I nod back.

Not a lot of people I know that bike get them though but they tend to be on smaller sized bikes :( I suppose mine is a bit of a lie looking at it....:D

Some times I don't nod because I have a situation oncoming and need to focus on that, otherwise I nod but don't always get a nod back... kind of expect it because I am on a 500cc scooter and not a 'proper bike'. I don't nod when there are lots of motorbikes around (Hastings this past weekend) because I end up nodding more than looking where I am going :D

Never understood the 'proper bike' thing.

It has two wheels, its a bike
It has an engine, its a motor bike

*shrug*

Back when I had my K75 I've had other Beemer riders stick a leg out at me on a few occasions, still not quite sure why. Rarely get any response since I defected.

The leg out thing is used around London a lot to show appreciation for a car moving to the side to allow filtering. Don't see it up here much.
