So far I have had 4 signatures on this forum. All have followed the rules set out in Gillys "nothing usefull to see here" thread. Yet all of them have been deleted seemingly randomly over a period of time, for being too big (they arent) or too large filesize (they werent). Latest one to go whomever it was left no reason at all.

This is highly annoying, as i only use the sig to tell where I have posted in threads, as i have the max post per page setting active.

As i have recieved no emails or anything, will the moderator in question please tell me who you are and more importantly, WHY you are deleting sigs that do not break any rules ?

IF its some kind of hint that is supposed to say "I dont want you on here" why not just tell me instead of abusing your leet powerz ?

Thanks

I dont have them anymore, i replace deleted ones with new ones as obviously theres something up with them.

they were all under 15kb and under 400x75. Some lasted months then randomly got deleted, others days.

400x75px, no animation, 5 lines of text or less including the text underneath. No gaps between the image and the text, image total size under 20KB... How is it difficult? Haunth3r, yours is over 40KB!

Well,

1) Because we have to download the page, if everyone had huge sig sizes it'd take forever, and be annoying. This is one of the few forums that allow image sigs where the pages still flash up instantly.
2) Use jpeg compression if you can't get a 24bit PNG under 40KB, use 8bit PNGs if you can stand the colour reduction.
Yours in JPEG at about 13.1KB:

3) Because we still have to download it, it doesn't matter if OCUK host it or not.
4) Lastly and perhaps most importantly, house rules.

To make it smaller, you'll have to use jpg instead of lossless png.

No idea why it's capped though, maybe in 1998, but today most of us have broadband. Not my rules though.

Aye, the original idea with size is for the small connection people, most have BB now mind. Still, it's good to have the rules there, stops people having stupidly large and slow loading images. :)

I don't wanna pick an arguement with anyone here as I haven't been on these forums long. So we'll call it a tiny debate.

But here are a few things that should be considered...

1. People upload massive images all the time on these forums...
So... If I was just to upload an image of my sig after every post I do "manually" and not in the sig section, then technically I'd not be breaking any rules.

2. The internet is not what it used to be, dial up is long gone and in comparrison to the average persons internet doings the OCUK forums is a tiny fraction of there downloading. As for Iphones there is unlimited internet and the fair usage policy is massive for a phone. As for download times things like images can be disabled.

3. Images can always be disabled in the browser, besides I've seen a fair few moving gifs as sigs they are surely over 40kb?
