So after scouring these forums for a couple days, reading feedback etc. and forcing myself to up my budget from 300 to over 500, this is what I've come out with. Please give feedback[I think the case + psu will get slated but oh well], also, if anyone can think of anyway to improve this for £520 or have your own ideas, please tell.

c2d Q8200
4 Gig DDR2 OCZ RAM
Coolermaster Elite 335 case
Coolermaster Extreme Power 550W PSU
Gainward 260GTX 896mb
Gigabyte GA-G31M Motherboard
Seagate 500Mb 7,200 spin hard-drive
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro SKT 775
Sony DVD-+ R 22 speed.

I personally think it looks like it will be a great build, but I'm sure people are always willing to critique.

For 500, I just think the Q8200 and the 260GTX should give be plenty of 'bang for my buck', and hsould last at least a couple years before I need to upgrade.

To think I've convinced myself to go from the E5200 and a 4850 to a Q8200 and the 260GTX. Wow.

Always thinking of ways of sliding within the budget etc. I think it should be fine though?

Looks good, and the better CPU and graphics card can be seen as a saving... just think you wont have to upgrade quite as soon in the future :p you get more mileage out of your components by buying better in the first place!

As for the Coolermaster case, yea its not amazing, but should do you fine, its great for the money and dont think Ive ever read anyone complaining about it :)

Yep Ducky, I must say, my last build was top of the range at the time, cost me about £1200 and lasted 5 years, so it seems to be worth it.

In reply to siumatfung, I've never OCed myself, but I'd love to give it a go, since I hear the Quad cores are great for overclocking.

dat cpu only has a 7x multiplier which in terms of overclocking isnt a great ideally i think you should take into consideration the Q6600 a great overclocking chip and i think it has more cache than the Q8200, or alternatively look at dual cores the E8400 and onwards are great overclocking chips or the E5200 is a good clocker as well

Hmm, is it worth paying like £20 more[if I'm right] to get the 8400 rather than stick to Quad 8200? Think the 8200 was the cheapest Quad I could find :D

how about the Q6700 and a cooler would cost about 166£ all together for cpu and cooler plus it has a 10x multiplier which makes the maths easier lol but time is still on your side and the cash is still in you hand so do not push the button as i would like to see if other agree with me:D

Hmm....so you're suggesting my independent arctic cooler wouldn't need to be used?So in essense for 166 I'd be getting the Q6700 and a cooler, which in fact would only cost me an extra 10er?

oops missed that in the spec but yes the arctic cooler will be fine for that cpu:D

right ive had a look now i would opt for the sunbeam cooler instead and the Q6700 which comes to about 172.72£

at the end of the day its your choice when u make stick with it unlike me
ive changed cooler mobo and ram and i havent had my pc for longer than a year yet lol
and now im looking at a gfx card haha
