Sigma EF-500 DG St & Sigma EF-500 DG Super - worth £63/91?

I'm after a cheap flash to give me a bit of scope for portrait stuff, but to be honest I'm not prepared to spend a lot just right now.

With voucher codes and the sale they're having, I can get the Sigma EF-500 DG St for £63, and the Sigma EF-500 DG SUPER for £91. Are they worth it?

I've read mixed reviews, but they seem to be a fairly solid budget flash, and the prices above are both over £50 cheaper than normal.

What do you guys reckon? I'm thinking it would be perfect for a budget flash to learn on, which could then be 'relegated' to a second flash if I decided one to splash out a bit more on an SB-600 or similar (which I just can't afford right now, or for a while).

Otherwise, any recommendations for similarly cheap flashguns? I use a D40, by the way. Any advice appreciated!

Get the SB-600, you'll eventually buy it anyway.

I'd get the SUPER if it were me.

Whilst this would be an ideal situation, it is a lot more money.

Well, on second looking, I've seen the SB-600 for around £130 - which only means going without Guitar Hero III til next month. Decisions...

Damn, if you can get it that cheap screw the Sigmas, get the SB-600.

IIRC mine was either £180 or £280 when I got it, and it was more than worth every penny of either price.

Yeah, I've now seen it for £128 delivered from the UK, so I think it's pretty much answered my question ... ta

I bought my sb600 for £113 from ebay uk seller, just checked though and they currently have none listed. Are we allowed to name ebay sellers?

Not for photography stuff, thanks anyway. I'll keep having a look, I reckon it'll have to wait til next month anyway so plenty of time
