Signing On

Nope - always has to be done at your local job centre every other week. I've been on it before and i asked them if it could be done online & they said no and also because they need to keep a record themselves of what you have been doing for job hunting etc.

Disabled people can post their declaration (last time I checked), and for some reason this includes people with poor hearing in just one ear that would have no problem turning up in person...

i left a place of work i was unhappy at and signed on for a month until i found a new employer

I agree, so as good citizens we need to make sure he isn't unfairly advantaged by doing it online, saving him from embarrasment.

So.... did you get sacked, as you cant sign on if you left of your own accord.

i left on my own accord and signed on, no problem
i wasnt using it to depend on as i still had a 8 hour a week off license job
mean i got minimum allowance
paid for petrol

then i got my job

there was nothing embarrassing about going to the job center
hold your head up high and just do what needs to be done

you dont just go to the job center to get money - they have plenty of stuff in industrial sectors as well as a large amount of jobs that are also advertised in computer weekly

so yes - there are a few scummers in there - but you could net yourself something decent

it could happen to anyone - and with the state of the economy being as it is it could happen to anyone sooner than later!

You can't claim then if you have another job thats 16 hours a week or more.

yes - and it doesn make it less of an incentive to go - but at the end of the day its there to help you in hard times so you may as well go for it - even if like me it was only £14 a week

£14 a week would still pay for my food so I agree there. Speaking of which, I need to check whether my claim's been processed (I posted on here recently about routes to take since losing my job).
