Have been held up by a few PSU RMAs but I finally have a PC that only just makes a slight fan buzz, very happy :D

Case: Fractal R2

Fans: 4 x 120mm Fractal , 2 x 140mm Fractal @ 80%

CPU Fan: Arctic Freezer @ 65%

PSU: Antec TruePower 650w (This was the real pain, Originally ordered a OCA GameXstream 850w but had to RMA 2 of them due to fan being stuck on full speed (very very noisy)

The only time I really hear the PC is when I game as I have my 5850 overclocked so the fan occasionally hits 45%, but Ive usually got my speakers up loud then :p

Not really sure if this is worthy of a new thread but I really am impressed with the noise levels, seems an age since I had my Athlon XP 2500+ M overclocked to 2.2Ghz needing a 80mm HSF running at 2500RPM

Nice one. Gives me hope. My dream silent computer is near as well. Just ordered a fan controller and once that comes I should be, finally, set.

Intel E8400
MSI P35 Neo 2 FR
4GB Corsair XMS2 DHX
Creative X-Fi Music
2x 750GB Samsung Spinpoint
2 x 1GB Samsung Spinpoint F1
Sony Sata DVDRW
MSI HD5850
Antec Truepower 650w
4 x 120mm Fractal Design
2 x 140mm Fractal Design
Fractal Design R2

Not really components but....

OCZ Illuminati Keyboard
Logitech G5
Benq 24" LED TFT
5.1 Cambridge Audio EAX speakers

Not the fastest set up in the world but it still handles everything I throw at it without issue (inc BC2 @ 1080, Max Settings, 2 x AA, 8 x AF Online).

AND SHE IS SILENT!!!
:D

Yeah I'd love to get a near silent setup as well, I was looking at the Fractal cases originally, but to get any decent cooling they need a hell of a lot of fans added which pushed it over budget unfortunately, the case on its own was splashing out to begin with.

I can dream though, my spec when I've decided will probably be high end enough for the next upgrade to be silencing and case upgrades so I can dream I guess :D

The fractal case has some sort of bitumen material on the side panels which dampens the noise.
If we could hold of this material we could make almost any case very quiet. Anyone know where to get it?

Rig in my sig is damn near silent, about the loudest thing is the air moving :D

Not that much unlike my rig, only I reckon mine is quieter due to better cpu cooler, psu and 3x 180mm fans.

I know what you mean, but I spend the majority of my pc time with my Goldring Ns1000's on so I don't really hear anything at all anyway, the problem for me is generally just leaving it downloading stuff when I need to be in my room.

I love the case, I'm looking to put 2 140mm fans in the top of mine, put the 120 i havew in the bottom, and then a new cooler. Oh, and a fan controller :)

But it is quiet :)

The problem is that once you go for a really quiet PC you open a whole can of worms.

Next the other PCs in the household will appear too loud and they will get fixed one by one. Then other devices such as PVRs, audio systems, game consoles etc also seem too loud and you'll start replacing fans and drives everywhere.

Or maybe this is just me :D

To be fair the only reason Im bothered about noise is because the PC is on pretty much 24/7 as a download, gaming and media rig, and like I say it only really makes any noise when I game. Not that I can hear it then.

Just built myself a new rig using the fractal design case. Has anyone used a fan controller in one of these cases? Im looking at getting one but it looks like the front door wouldnt be able to shut if it was installed.

its used on cheapo road surfaces. try the highways agency...

There is a fan controller here on OcUK that is pretty low profile as far as the dials go. Cant remember which but its one of the cheaper ones. Was thinking about getting it as I actually decided to go with an R2 rather than an antec 300
