Managed to grab a 60gig SSD this week, so i'm looking to replace my noisy 1tb drive with something a little more quiet and eco friendly. Only need something around the 250 - 300gig mark (non essential apps and the rare games) So what would you recommend??

(the 1 tb will be added to a media server so i dont want to keep it in my current build)

Tbh you can pick up `TB drives so cheap now, it's not worth buying anything smaller as you'd be buying something less than half the size for 75% of the cost.

My Samsung F3 drive is very quiet.

You'l want a single platter drive for silence, been a while since I last checked but platter densities should easily be able to accomodate over 300gb per platter. Afraid I have no particular recomendation (latest hdd purchase last 2 yrs have been a 1tb and ssd) but any latest gen drive at about that size should fit the bill (ie single platter). Eco wise 5400rpm should consume a little less power if your happy to sacrifice some transfer/seek speed.

As to difference between brand models or specific silence/eco targeed models, not a clue, hopefully someone else will know.

My F3 is very loud , if I wanted a silent drive I certainly would be disappointed.

OP, have you considered a bungee cord mod? I did it for my drives and it works wonders :)

I'd say WD10EARS or for and extra tenner and 1TB space WD20EARS, the latter has an extra platter so uses slightly more power but I've got both and the noise difference is negligable.
