Hi,

I have an E6600 running at about 3GHz.

I want to make it silent, so am thinking about getting a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme (Will this fit in a Coolermaster 201?) and a Sharkoon Silent Eagle x000

(What is the difference between 1000 and 2000?)

I also need a new PSU. Any suggestions on something cheap that is silent in use?

Thanks

Personally i'd get either a Tuniq Tower due to good reviews

From personal experience the Scythe Ninja, Thermaltake Big Typhoon (VX or normal - either is fine) or a Thermalright SI-128 all return performance similar to the Ultra 120 Extreme for much less cash!

As for Bes' question re: the sharkoons. The 1000 and 2000 refer to the rpm of the fans. I have always used 1000's (perfect for the Scythe Ninja which loves low RPM fans) as they push enough air for general cooling and do it very quietly.

As long as it's silent, I don't mind what I get... I'm not a leet overclocker or mad gamer or anything ;)

In that case any of my suggestions will be fine.

Just be sure to check the amount of available space for the Tuniq if you decide to get it as that looks like a particularly large cooler.

Don't see why not. They're quiet fans but provide good pressure (the reason watercoolers like using them on their rads so much).

Would be a fine choice i'd imagine.

Good luck with that e6600 tonight too matey! ;)

What is the fan like on your graphics card?

ALso, what is your HDD set up?

I have 4 12cm Nexus fans (1 on my Scythe Katana 2, 1 on my Acellero cooling my 8800GT, 2 intake and exhaust for my case) and an Enermax Noisetaker, along with Seagate HDDs and my pc is inaudible from my bed :)

Cheer gt - I want to leave work now and go home and see what it cane do but as I'm the only one in on the helpdesk today that's doubtful

Will post back tonight, current cooler is a AC7 Pro but I'll be changing that I think.........

if you get any vibrations from your HDD(s) suspend them from elastic in their bays, just a tip =]

Silent PSU: Antec Phantom
Hard Drive whine: Replace drives with laptop drives (see silentPCreview for a list of recommended quiet drives) or/and consider an enclosure such as the scythe quietdrive. Beware temps go up with enclosures.
Silent CPU sink: Thermalright HR01 or Scythe Ninja are both designed to run passive. Need at least one case fan though.

Often the PSU fan can work really well to remove heat so rather than getting the passive antec consider a very quiet PSU such as the seasonic S12 or M12 mk2 (don't get M12 mk1 it sucks) series. See SilentPCReview again for a good list of recomendations.

The Sharkoon silent eagle is a good fan. However (by general consensus) the sythe slipstream pushes more air per db than any other 120mm 12v PC Case fan on the market at low speeds.
